Beach adventures (all within 20 minutes)
Pantier and our cottages are only a 1.5 mile drive to our local beach, the stunning Blue Flag splendour of Newgale.
Nothing quite beats that drive down the hill to the sweeping 2 miles of golden sound opening up before you. With a surf and watersports activity centre on site there is so much on offer for families, surfers and walkers alike - learn to surf by day (try Newsurf just behind the beach (01437 721398)) and roast marshmallows on the campfire by night. You'll also find the most fabulous rock pools at either end of the beach.
For a pretty epic vista, why not walk up the West Hills just behind the beach where you can find the perfect picnic spot!

The village itself has a number of lovely local craft shops, galleries and eateries – look out for the local catch on the menu at the wonderful 35 Main Street on the front and be sure to grab a bag of welshcakes warm off the griddle from the fabulous ladies at Mamgu. For families, there is a wonderful playground just tucked behind 35 Main Street over the little bridge (perfect for an impromptu game of Pooh Sticks!). From May onwards, you’ll find lots of families and youngsters jumping into the water at high tide on warm evenings and there’s always plenty of paddle boarding opportunities – so make sure to bring your wetsuit along and dive right in!
Be sure to also head to Porthmynawyd beach (pronounced ‘Porth-min-ar-wid’) - a little hidden gem just west of Newgale on the way to Solva. Access is by a public footpath from Pointz Castle farm, the home of a beautiful cafe selling incredible ice-cream all made on site. The footpath leads through two fields and along a deep lush valley to the beach. This is an amazing sheltered beach for swimming with countless hidden caves to explore filled with fluorescent blue water. If visiting with children, look to time your visit with an ebbing tide as the bay reveals large patches of soft, wet golden sand, perfect for those looking to try out their bucket and spade!

What’s more, the cove is the perfect spot for a swim – and after a refreshing dip you have not one but THREE fabulous pubs to choose from to rehydrate in! What’s not to love?

The 2 mile coastal path between these two gems is also a favourite of many and a great place to seal spot!

A little hidden gem just west of Newgale. Pointz Castle farm is the home of a beautiful cafe selling incredible ice-cream all made on site - you can see the cows all around the farm! If that isn't enough, there is a beautiful little cove down the valley from the farm. Known locally as Pointz Castle beach it's actual name is Porthmynawyd - pronounced 'Porth-min-ar-wid'.
Access is by a public footpath which leads through two fields and along a deep lush valley to the beach. This is an amazing sheltered beach for swimming with countless hidden caves to explore filled with fluorescent blue water. Look to time your visit with an ebbing tide as the bay reveals large patches of soft, wet golden sand, perfect for those looking to try out their bucket and spade!

Breathtaking otherworldly sunsets, flowing local beer and atmospheric guitars are the order of the day here.

You can park right by the beach with everything at hand - grab a coffee from the beach shack and a play on South Beach before heading into Tenby for an explore inside the walled town with it's narrow colourful streets and cosy pubs. Visit beautiful St Mary's Church, the lifeboat station and the Museum and Art Gallery on the hill. Be sure to stop by Joe's Pizza for the best pizza in town or the Sand Bar for a local Tenby beer and some amazing grub - with all you can eat on a Sunday! Both super family friendly.

Explore the Cleddau estuary (perfect excuse to book a canoe or kayak trip!) with a stop at Carew Castle (a fabulous spot for crabbing!) before heading to Lawrenny quay for stone skimming and lunch at the Quayside Cafe (check opening times out of the summer season) - the mackerel pate and lemon thing dessert are amazing!!

The rest was washed away in the enormous storm of 1859 that created all of Pembrokeshire’s pebble banks. The 10ft high wall surrounding the top of the beach makes it very sheltered indeed - often a few degrees warmer than surrounding shores.
The perfect swimming beach and for kids to play about in a kayak - you can also walk through to Pwllgwaelod beach from here, home of the wonderful Old Sailors pub - the most beautiful local seafood served up with a smile and if you're lucky a sing song BBQ by the beach!

The rest was washed away in the enormous storm of 1859 that created all of Pembrokeshire’s pebble banks. The 10ft high wall surrounding the top of the beach makes it very sheltered indeed - often a few degrees warmer than surrounding shores.
The perfect swimming beach and for kids to play about in a kayak - you can also walk through to Pwllgwaelod beach from here, home of the wonderful Old Sailors pub - the most beautiful local seafood served up with a smile and if you're lucky a sing song BBQ by the beach!

Barafundle Bay

Broad Haven South Beach
A truly beautiful beach - you can either park in the National Trust car park above the beach and take the steps down or why not park up at Bosherston Lily Ponds - it's such a magical walk through the beautiful ponds and woodland pathways which suddenly open out onto Broadhaven's golden sands, before strolling back for scones and clotted cream at the wonderfully quaint and quirky Bosherston Tea Rooms.
There's also a fabulous foodie trailer on Broadhaven South car park run by Paternoster farm serving up all their locally grown produce and icecream!
Epic Freshwater West, the home of some fabulous surf (watch for the flags for rip tides) and probably the best lobster roll you'll ever have from Cafe Môr on site in the main car park.
Make sure to walk up the old seaweed hut and the site of a rather famous Harry Potter film - you're sure to leave this beach with a Pembrokeshire vista that will capture your heart ❤️ - guaranteed!

The beautiful gardens with lake and gorgeous wooden houses with hideaway holes, ladders and swings for the children to explore and run free are well worth a visit! Be sure to look out for event announcements on social media.

Dr Beynon's Bug Farm is just outside St David’s and an absolute gem! Such a beautiful little set up with bug zoo (the ant tunnels are fascinating!!), fabulous restaurant, The Grub Kitchen, lots of opportunities to see the bugs up close (and even taste some!!) and the guys are so knowledgeable - the perfect balance of fun and educational! Our children absolutely love it! This one is a must do.

Such a beautiful little set up with bug zoo (the ant tunnels are fascinating!!), fabulous restaurant, The Grub Kitchen, lots of opportunities to see the bugs up close (and even taste some!!) and the guys are so knowledgeable - the perfect balance of fun and educational! Our children absolutely love it! This one is a must do.
Who's up for a game of knights, princesses and dragons?! Pembroke Castle is a fabulous family day out - look out for boats trip on the moat and any special events, especially the Christmas market!

Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort and the surrounding Preselis is a magical day out - owned by the National Park, this iron age fort and archeological site is truly like stepping back in time, even down to the smells! The quite beautiful round houses are so atmospheric and the staff are incredibly knowledgeable - with lots of events going on this place is well worth a visit and easy to combine with a day out exploring the north: perhaps stop for some crabbing in pretty Fishguard harbour and a gastro pub lunch in trendy Newport. Make sure to drive back over the stunning Preseli Hills (the views across the wild moorland to the coast are incredible!) with a stop at the ancient burial chamber of Pentre Ifan - a truly spiritual spot and not one to miss.

Castell Henllys

Sightseeing days out
We just love our little city here in Pembrokeshire - St Davids may be little but it has the biggest heart and is in the most amazing spot overlooking Ramsay island.
No day in St Davids would start right without breakfast and coffee at the Really Wild Emporium a fabulous seasonal and sustainable place run by the smiliest team, then it's time for a mooch in the galleries, delis, surf shops - don't miss TYF who are doing amazing things in the world of sustainable tourism and living - and all the usual favourites, a stop at Oriel y Parc the National Park hub is a must with some great activities for the kiddies and it's a useful info hub, and of course it's impossible to not stop for some yummy icecream from The Bench before a visit to the truly epic cathedral and resting place of Henry VII. We'd then head out to Caerfai bay to take in those stunning views before a walk to St Nons chapel and even onto Porthclais harbour (see the beach section for more info on this stretch of coastal path!) and a drive out to St Justinians - an epic spot seemingly at the end of the world from where you can spot the lifeboat station and squeeze in a truly memorable boat trip through the renowned waterway known as the 'bitches'! It's then got to be back to the main square for an evening drink at The Bishops overlooking the cathedral before a meal at St David's Kitchen - stunning local St Davids food at it's very best.

The iconic Melin Tregwynt Woollen Mill is set within the most beautiful spot and - as you might expect - has a beautifully stylish coffee shop too! And best of all, it's only 15 minutes away from us! Their stunning Pembrokeshire blankets sell in Libertys and around the world. It's fascinating just walking around the mill and watching the team at work.
We also love the family friendly walk from here through the woods down to the most gorgeous little cove Aberbach ❤️

Their stunning Pembrokeshire blankets sell in Libertys and around the world. It's fascinating just walking around the mill and watching the team at work.

The Creative Cafe, where you can paint your own pottery, is also a fab way to create a fun holiday memento if you have kids in tow!
