Beach adventures (all within 20 minutes)

Pantier and our cottages are only a 1.5 mile drive to our local beach, the stunning Blue Flag splendour of Newgale. Nothing quite beats that drive down the hill to the sweeping 2 miles of golden sound opening up before you. With a surf and watersports activity centre on site there is so much on offer for families, surfers and walkers alike - learn to surf by day (try Newsurf just behind the beach (01437 721398)) and roast marshmallows on the campfire by night. You'll also find the most fabulous rock pools at either end of the beach. For a pretty epic vista, why not walk up the West Hills just behind the beach where you can find the perfect picnic spot!

For those looking to stretch their coastal legs with some gorgeous local craft and foodie delights thrown in, we are only a short 10 minute drive to the picturesque harbour village of Solva. Stroll along the harbour and take in the views – it’s also a fabulous spot for some crabbing at high tide! At low tide you can walk right out along the mouth of the harbour to a secluded cove of Gwadn or walk up over the headland known as the Gribbin. The village itself has a number of lovely local craft shops, galleries and eateries – look out for the local catch on the menu at the wonderful 35 Main Street on the front and be sure to grab a bag of welshcakes warm off the griddle from the fabulous ladies at Mamgu. For families, there is a wonderful playground just tucked behind 35 Main Street over the little bridge (perfect for an impromptu game of Pooh Sticks!). From May onwards, you’ll find lots of families and youngsters jumping into the water at high tide on warm evenings and there’s always plenty of paddle boarding opportunities – so make sure to bring your wetsuit along and dive right in! Be sure to also head to Porthmynawyd beach (pronounced ‘Porth-min-ar-wid’) - a little hidden gem just west of Newgale on the way to Solva. Access is by a public footpath from Pointz Castle farm, the home of a beautiful cafe selling incredible ice-cream all made on site. The footpath leads through two fields and along a deep lush valley to the beach. This is an amazing sheltered beach for swimming with countless hidden caves to explore filled with fluorescent blue water. If visiting with children, look to time your visit with an ebbing tide as the bay reveals large patches of soft, wet golden sand, perfect for those looking to try out their bucket and spade!

If you visit this pretty little village and cove (often dubbed little Cornwall in Wales), be sure to walk out to the Point and take in the view of St Brides Bay before calling in at trendy Lobster and Mor for some fantastic fresh lobster or a delicious crab sandwich, children (and adults alike!) will love the live lobster tank! What’s more, the cove is the perfect spot for a swim – and after a refreshing dip you have not one but THREE fabulous pubs to choose from to rehydrate in! What’s not to love?

These two historic gems - Porthgain and neighbouring Abereiddy - are a must see! Park by Abereiddy beach and take the lovely little walk past the old mining cottages to the incredible blue lagoon – now famed for the Red Bull diving event held here every year, it gets its almost phosphoresent blue colour from the slate beneath – for the more adventurous, why not try some lagoon coasteering - try TYF in St Davids! Before heading to historic Porthgain harbour - this little place churned out over 50,000 bricks a week at its height making it one of the largest brick producers in the world in it's day! Now one of the main draws are the two fab eateries within a stones throw of each other - The Sloop Inn and The Shed - both with the friendliest of staff. for a mooch in the galleries and some fabulous local food at The Shed fish bistro (INCREDIBLE fish and chips) or the characterful Sloop Inn – there’s something almost Disney-esque about the magical interior, with wooden cladding, copious lights, old photographs and boats hanging from the ceiling! The 2 mile coastal path between these two gems is also a favourite of many and a great place to seal spot!

You can pick up the coastal path in Little Haven and walk the beautiful 3 or so miles to Druidstone beach – we are spoilt with just over 186 miles of Pembrokeshire coastal path to choose from and this little section does not disappoint – there are some spectacular cliff formations, natural arches and caves to explore, as well as the famous ‘telly tubby house’ and the ever fabulous and bohemian Druidstone Hotel or quite simply ‘The Dru’- an absolute must do but you must call to book a table as it's members only – with a view unlike no other. Breathtaking otherworldly sunsets, flowing local beer and atmospheric guitars are the order of the day here.

The Jones’ love a good stone skimming at Abercastle - the perfect little harbour with coastal path hedgerows full to bursting with blackberries and sloes in the autumn - my happy place! Perfect for a kayak from here - super easy to launch - and a number of circular walks too! Don't forget to grab breakfast just up the road at the Mill in Trefin beforehand - fabulous find!

Probably my favourite coastal walk is from St Davids center to St Nons well and chapel, the ancient birthplace of St David in the 6th century, and along the coastal path (just over a mile) to the stunning natural harbour of Porthclais - the drama and beauty of this part of the coast is just breathtaking and the cliffs are full of sea pinks in late spring. There is a National Trust kiosk on the car park by the harbour which offers the best coffee, cakes, icecream and sandwiches. I love a wild dip here - be sure to have a tow float with you though if you decide to head in!

Tenby South and Castle beach is a firm favourite of ours. Soft golden sand with the beautiful backdrop of Tenby promenade and Caldey Island in the distance. You can park right by the beach with everything at hand - grab a coffee from the beach shack and a play on South Beach before heading into Tenby for an explore inside the walled town with it's narrow colourful streets and cosy pubs. Visit beautiful St Mary's Church, the lifeboat station and the Museum and Art Gallery on the hill. Be sure to stop by Joe's Pizza for the best pizza in town or the Sand Bar for a local Tenby beer and some amazing grub - with all you can eat on a Sunday! Both super family friendly.

Saundersfoot is a lovely South Pembrokeshire bucket and spade harbour town - enjoy having an explore with some serious crabbing to be had from the specially made area on the harbour - before resting those legs in the Stone Crab for a cheeky bite to eat. The food is fabulous! If you find yourself needing a refreshment or two on the beach, Cwlbox is a food trailer with a difference - with incredible dirty fries and sea food on offer in season! There is a fun little walk from the town through the old mining tramway tunnels to Coppet Hall beach and along to Wiseman's bridge. The perfect place for going on a bear hunt and a play on the beaches!

Heading further up North - this is our favourite beach out near Dinas and Newport - famously, above the beach is the end wall of a chapel. The rest was washed away in the enormous storm of 1859 that created all of Pembrokeshire’s pebble banks. The 10ft high wall surrounding the top of the beach makes it very sheltered indeed - often a few degrees warmer than surrounding shores. The perfect swimming beach and for kids to play about in a kayak - you can also walk through to Pwllgwaelod beach from here, home of the wonderful Old Sailors pub - the most beautiful local seafood served up with a smile and if you're lucky a sing song BBQ by the beach!

A true National Trust blue flag gem, and arguably one of the most beautiful beaches in Pembrokeshire and an absolute must. It's a bit of walk through fields and headland to Barafundle - but well worth it. The National Trust cafe next to the carpark is a welcome refreshment stop on return! While over this way by the Stackpole estate, be sure to head to St Govans and the little chapel in the rocks - some 75 steps take you down to this quite awesome yet beautifully tranquil spot. Absolutely incredible scenery here.

Sightseeing days out

We just love our little city here in Pembrokeshire - St Davids may be little but it has the biggest heart and is in the most amazing spot overlooking Ramsay island. No day in St Davids would start right without breakfast and coffee at the Really Wild Emporium a fabulous seasonal and sustainable place run by the smiliest team, then it's time for a mooch in the galleries, delis, surf shops - don't miss TYF who are doing amazing things in the world of sustainable tourism and living - and all the usual favourites, a stop at Oriel y Parc the National Park hub is a must with some great activities for the kiddies and it's a useful info hub, and of course it's impossible to not stop for some yummy icecream from The Bench before a visit to the truly epic cathedral and resting place of Henry VII. We'd then head out to Caerfai bay to take in those stunning views before a walk to St Nons chapel and even onto Porthclais harbour (see the beach section for more info on this stretch of coastal path!) and a drive out to St Justinians - an epic spot seemingly at the end of the world from where you can spot the lifeboat station and squeeze in a truly memorable boat trip through the renowned waterway known as the 'bitches'! It's then got to be back to the main square for an evening drink at The Bishops overlooking the cathedral before a meal at St David's Kitchen - stunning local St Davids food at it's very best. We are so proud of this place.

The iconic Melin Tregwynt Woollen Mill is set within the most beautiful spot and - as you might expect - has a beautifully stylish coffee shop too! And best of all, it's only 15 minutes away from us! Their stunning Pembrokeshire blankets sell in Libertys and around the world. It's fascinating just walking around the mill and watching the team at work. We also love the family friendly walk from here through the woods down to the most gorgeous little cove Aberbach ❤️

Narberth is well worth a visit - a gorgeous market town packed with trendy delis (try Ultra Comida for amazing tapas, Fforc deli for the best coffee and scotch eggs and Plum Vanilla for the most colourful vegan delights!), gift shops, vintage shops, coffee houses and antiques galore, all will keep you and your purse busy for most of the day! The Creative Cafe, where you can paint your own pottery, is also a fab way to create a fun holiday memento if you have kids in tow!
