Parks & Nature

Further up the Palmerston Highway there is Crawfords Lookout. A good lookout with a walking trail down to the escarpment where you get a good view of the river. Don' t worry if it's raining , there is nothing better than walking in the rainforest in the rain. Just watch your footing in case it gets slippery. If you have a four wheel drive you can do the Misty Mountain Drive, which is further on. On the left. It goes to a camping place on the river and if you continue on you can come out near Wangan, and back home on the paved road. If the left turn to Misty Mountains is not taken, you can visit the Henrietta Creek National Park . There is a weir there and good for bird watching.

It is a lovely walk through the rainforest track to the river where you can swim. Just be water wise if there has been a lot of rain, it can be dangerous in those conditions. Enjoy the lookouts and obey the signage. Take the picnic bag and have your coffee at one of the tables provides and wait for the bower bird come to steal. Don't forget to have a look at the Golden Hole just around the corner, you might see a croc.

Ella Bay National Park is just a short drive, or cycle, or even walk if you're feeling energetic. It is very beautiful, the views over the bay are worth looking at. It's a dirt road, but drive safe and don't go too fast, just enjoy. There is a picnic table at the first part so don't forget your coffee or lunch. Also remember this is still croc country so don't go for a big swim. You can catch fish off the rocks there too. A good walk circuit if you go up the track as far as the picnic tables and then down the beach back home. You may see a Cassowary on the track/road if you're lucky and there are usually wallabies hopping by, which is another reason to take care if you're driving.

Sightseeing

Paronella Park is good value if you want to return anytime free within the next two years. So it is worth returning for a night visit, which is very interesting.
