North Street and Southville - Overview

Hey, Thanks for checking out our guidebook. North Street is in the heart of Southville and is just seconds away from the Cigar Factory. It is one of the coolest neighbourhoods in town! The area is full of independent shops, restaurants, bars, markets, urban art and an amazing city farm! It’s a buzzing area, popular with young professionals, creatives, families, weekend visitors and local Bristolians alike. North Street is the centre of most of the activity and is literally on the doorstep of the loft so you’ll have plenty to see and do during your stay. Here’s a run down of our “must see list” and favourite things. We have also included a few that are a little further afield, but certainly worth the walk or short Uber ride.
A 2 minute walk from Cigar Factory, (turn left onto North Street) Tincan is a great local choice for your morning coffee. They provide their own seasonal blend, by local roaster Clifton Coffee and offer up simple but tasty brunches and cakes.

A relative newcomer to Bristol, Hobbs is going down a storm on North Street. They sell fresh breads and pastries to takeaway but you can also sit in with a coffee and breakfast roll (if you can get a table). We love their sourdough loaf to bring home.

Right over the road from the entrance to Raleigh Road, this Middle Eastern inspired restaurant has become a firm fave in North Street, but booking ahead is a must! We recommend the Chef's dips as a starter with some of their delicious bread, washed down with a glass of chilled white. Delicious!

Their tagline "Deliciously Dirty" definitely sums this place up. Truly delicious burgers for meat-eaters and vegans alike. The place gets very busy so Deliveroo is a good option. We love the ‘Flithy Clucker’ burger that comes with a side of gravy: the best accompaniment to a Netflix binge on our big sofa.

The Hen and Chicken pub is the legendary Comedy Box. A small comedy venue that is a favourite for fresh, new talent and stand up A-listers. If you’re staying at our place on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday night it’s definitely worth chekcing to see who’s on.

Literally a stone's throw from the apartment is the legendary Tobacco Facory. This venue really does encapsulate Bristol's community spirit. It is a cafe, a bar, a theater AND an awesome Sunday market! The relaxed, family friendly cafe and bar here offers something for everyone, from light bites, soups and sandwiches to sharing plates and mezze in the evening. They also offer up a mean ‪Sunday lunch‬. They also have a great yard for sitting out with a beer on a summer's evening taking in the beautiful architecture of our Cigar Factory just over the road!

If you fancy a walk into town we recommend popping over the Goal Ferry bridge to Whapping Wharf: a new development linking South Bristol to the City Centre. Converted shipping containers house some of our favourite restaurants including Root and Salt & Malt (both owned by Bristol's leading chef, Josh Eggleton). We love predinner cocktaiks at Little Victories (the cold brew negroni is fantastic). It's also a another great place to spend an afternoon browsing the shops.  Whapping Wharf is approx 15 mins on foot from Cigar Factory and we think it's certainly worth the walk.

For keen chefs or those staying longer, we strongly recommend Rare to pick up the finest cuts of meat. All their produce is free-range from local farmers across the south west. And the staff are lovely for a chat and give you lots of information about the providence of their produce.

Okay, it’s 20 minute walk or a 10 minute car ride but this fish and chip shop is by far the best in the area. Fresh, sustainably sourced fish, massive piles of chips and the best mushy peas this side of the Humber - we strongly recommend you check it out. They’re not on Deliveroo or Just Eat, so you have to make the effort. If you’re disappointed will reimburse you for the entire cost of your stay. Well, we won’t. But you get what we are trying to say.

This is one of our faves in Bristol. We’ve been six times with friends and family and has never disappointed. Always amazing food, seasonal menu changes, very reasonably priced based in a very cool shipping conatiner in Wapping Wharf. Booking is a must as there’s only a handful of tables.

This place is a fantastic family run Spanish tapas restaurant brought to you by Bristol’s most awarded chef, Peter Sanchez - Iglesias. It recently made it into the Michelin Guide so it’s certainly one of Bristol’s favourite “foodie hotspots”. Food and service are usually top notch. Great cocktail list and sherry is a big thing here too. Early booking recommended.
