This is within the national parks so no dogs aloud here. This is a child friendly beach patrolled in season by the great folks that volunteer at the local surf lifesaving club which is located midway along the beach. Also available for wedding/event hire and hosts family activities during school holidays. Both ends of this beach have walking tracks into the National Park. The Southern end (sandy car park and boat launch) has walking access through NP to Shelley Beach which is stunning, FYI it’s a nudist beach as well.

Places to eat and grab a coffee

Let’s be honest, we live in a culinary desert by comparison if your from Sydney or Newcastle. But we do have good honest food and it’s continually getting more diverse.
This is run by the ever exuberant Tilly and the food is prep rated by CHEF (yep that’s what he refers to) and the name is justified. He creates dishes from all in-house fresh prouduce. You will not get packet sauces or frozen box products at this great little place. Just good honest food created with passion. And the coffee is the best in the area without the crazy waiting time you’ll find at Bluey’s cafes during school holidays.

Great views at the edge of Smith’s Lake and the kids playground. This is a scenic place to unwind with popular cafe choices on offer. You can also hire boats and SUP’s here and this area provides a safe swimming environment for the little ones or throw a line in a catch your own meal.

This is a busy cafe in the heart of Blueys shops for good reason. It’s only relatively new to the area but has stood the test of time already with continued patronage and food offerings inspired by Balinese culture as well as a twist on the standard cafe offerings. Cold press juices and good coffee in a sunny space that’s great for people watching. This does get busy in the holiday season and it’s advisable to book for dinner.

This little gem is new to the area and is the sister cafe of Drift in Newcastle. Great coffee and friendly staff with the sidewalk cafe vibe.

Seals Rocks is the place to go for a day. Step back in time and slow down in this original old fishing village. It’s a scenic 15min from here, you go past the little Bungwahl school and enter the last frontier. This area has amazing beaches all facing different directions whith great surf options depending on the swell direction. If your not into surfing take your snorkeling gear and go to Boat beach which is just past the old school general store and famous Single Fin coffee caravan. Pack a picnic lunch and take the amazing scenic walk up to the historic lighthouse with views along the entire coast line. Perfect during whale migration season. Tip: if it’s windy at home it will not be pleasant up there. You can 4wd access Lighthouse beach with the same beach permit as Cellito beach. Take your pick of where to park up and enjoy the surf. Further past here is Yagon beach deeper into the National Park.
