DUKE UNIVERSITY 55 acres of gardens with ponds, fountains and other water features on the campus of Duke University. Something is always in bloom, it’s never crowded and it’s full of intimate spots. A great location for the photographer.

DURHAM The Durham Hotel features a rooftop bar that’s a hangout for travelers, visitors and locals. While they feature hand crafted cocktails and lite fare at the rooftop, they offer full service fine dining in the restaurant at the lobby level. The Durham is in an architecturally significant building in the city center and one of the best places downtown to watch the sun set. 15 min. drive. Coffee/Drinks/Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

DURHAM The Streets at Southpoint is a regional shopping mall anchored by Nordstrom, Belk, Macy’s, Sears and JCPenny and home to an Apple Store, California Pizza Kitchen, Hollister, Pottery Barn, Gap and many other big boxes; The mall features a Main Street feel with an outdoor walking street lined with small shops and restaurants and anchored by the AMC movie megaplex, Southpoint Cinemas. While I’m not a shopping or mall person, Southpoint is worth visiting. The street is lined with statues and there’s often live entertainers, and there’s movies and indoor spaces for rainy days.
