Getting Around

The light rail is the cheapest option to get here and not that much less convenient than an Uber. It's $3 from the airport. It costs less for shorter rides. That station is also a bus tunnel, so you can hop on buses or the train there. If you take it South, it goes to the airport. If you take it North, it goes to the shopping districts, Westlake Center, the Convention Center, Capitol Hill and the University of Washington campus.

Essentials

Awesome Asian grocery store and food court with tons of lunch and dinner options. I go to the food court before a game or for lunch a lot. The grocery store has most normal stuff and lots of international foods, a good produce and seafood section, a great bookstore and the best Sake collection anywhere.

Drug store with food and other stuff. You can buy growlers of local beer here! You can also buy anything from razors to a toothbrush to an umbrella. They have a pharmacy in back if you need one too.

Sightseeing

If you get a chance, walk down and take a ferry ride! You can just pay to walk on any of the ferries and you can ride over and back across the Puget Sound. It's crazy beautiful and not that expensive. The views on a nice day of the mountains, the water and looking back at the Seattle skyline, are incredible.

If you haven't been to the Space Needle it is pretty spectacular. The views are unlike any other. There is a restaurant up there too that revolves (books up tho, you have to make a reservation and it waves your elevator fee of $20pp). It takes an hour to make one lap and you can see everything on a clear day.

The oldest farmer's market in the country. This is where you go to see the famous fish throwers, the first Starbucks and all that the market has to offer.

Food Scene

The lobster po-boy meal w/macaroni salad and coconut rice is incredible. Not super cheap, this combo meal is $17, but it's enough food to split if you're on a budget.

Owner is Chinese and is the chef so his recipes are legit. It's not cheap for Chinese food FYI. I love the Kung Pao Shrimp there.

dim sum isn't really my jam but people claim the Purple Dot is the best dim sum in town. It's just downstairs from the apartment and it's open until 3:30am!

a good coffee shop and cafe across the street - the veggie breakfast crepe is amazing. The coffee is okay, but I'm a tough crowd for coffee. They also have a happy hour here with decent beer in the afternoons.

Try the custard filled corn flake doughnut!! Most of the baked stuff around the neighborhood, like at the Eastern Cafe get their stuff from the Fuji Bakery. Also, everyone says the matcha green tea lattes are to die for here.

Best eggs benedict in town imo. The vegetarian biscuits and gravy are my other favorite there. I've been going there for over 20 years and remember Glo very well. She was a sweet old lady with good recipes and would take in kids off the street to give them a job there. After she died they've kept the place going. There are only a few tables at this place you have to be okay with waiting. But they will pour you coffee and keep it refilled while you wait outside.

Really amazing fresh spring rolls. This Vietnamese restaurant is a little more upscale but has lovely cocktails and very good food for the price.

I was blown away by this glass gallery!! You can do this on the same day at the Space Needle and I think it's totally worth it.
