Parks & Nature
An unusual monument representing the Gate of Negapatam, a port in Madras, India sits atop Cnoc Fyrish and can be seen from most of the surrounding areas. Built by the local lord who served as a General in India, the construction kept the locals in work during the Highland Clearances. It's rumoured that General Munro and some of his men would summit the hill at nights to return some of the stones to the bottom in order to create extra work for the labourers.
Atop the hill, there are some excellent views from the top and it's not too challenging a climb so suitable for all ages.

This is right next to the A9 at the north turn-off for Dornoch. It’s good-quality safe and standard Scottish pub food, but 90% of the customers all order the same thing, the sizzling steak platter. This isn’t fine dining, but who doesn’t enjoy a sizzling hot platter with a lump of steak, chips, onion rings, tomato, red cabbage, carrots and peas on it?

Excellent food with a good selection of dishes and an emphasis on fish. A fine selection of wines and whisky. I recommend you book here as it is a very popular establishment with the locals and repeat golf-tourists.

The Highland’s have a disproportionate amount of top quality haggis-makers however in my personal opinion, the multi-award winning Cockburns of Dingwall make the finest haggis around.

You visit some restaurants because you have no choice. Some because they are good and nearby. Trust me, this is one restaurant you should go out of your way and make a special visit. An historic setting on the outskirts of Inverness this is another fine dining experience. If you want a real bargain, I'd advise going here for a lunch through the week where you'll likely get the entire place to yourself.
