We haven't eaten here since they underwent a makeover in a restaurant reality show a few years ago, but the new menu looks decent and moderately priced. Plus, they have scenic outdoor seating overlooking the river right next to the covered bridge. If you go, be sure to drive back on route 175 to catch the nice mount views.

Nearby, classic White Mountains hike with nice views. Beware that some parts of the Dickey trail are a bit like rock climbing. If you plan to do the entire loop starting from Dickey side is best. If you just want a short hike with views, go up the Welch side to the top of the ledges and return the way you came. These are some of the most hiked trails in the whites and can be VERY busy on the weekends, so it pays to start early.

You can do the short hike up Artists' Bluff, enjoy Echo Lake, take the aerial tramway up Cannon Mountain, visit the New England Ski Museum, hike the Flume Gorge in summer/fall, bike the paved bike path through the notch or Ski Cannon Mountain in winter. For serious hikers, trailheads for Mt Lafayette, Lonesome Lake, Cannon Mountain and many others are located in Franconia Notch. For rock climbers, there are numerous traditional climbing crags in this area. Also visit the Garnett Hill Outlet and Polly's Pancake house in Franconia.

The 12 mile drive to Waterville Valley along route 49 has many scenic views of the Mad River and surrounding mountains (Welch & Dickey the Tripyramids, Tecumseh, Sandwich Dome and Black Mountain) swimming holes, such as "The Eddy" (about 1.5 miles up on the right), Smarts Brook, Welch & Dickey trail heads. Its a nice road bike ride, with smooth surface (turn on Burbank to come back on Mad River Road).

Iconic NH The Old Man of the Mountain, also known as the Great Stone Face or the Profile,[1] was a series of five granite cliff ledges on Cannon Mountain in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, United States, that appeared to be the jagged profile of a face when viewed from the north. The rock formation was 1,200 feet (370 m) above Profile Lake, and measured 40 feet (12 m) tall and 25 feet (7.6 m) wide. The site is located in the town of Franconia. The first recorded mention of the Old Man was in 1805. It collapsed on May 3, 2003.[2] There is still a view point parking area, and Franconia Notch is beautiful to drive through or stop and visit Franconia Notch State Park.
