This relatively new French spot is cool, modern and affordable. Oh, and the food is amazing. Try Alsatian dishes like spaetzle and tarte flambée, delicious custom cocktails and -- less obviously -- the best french fries in Carroll Gardens. The low-key electronica, open windows and chic industrial design make this an experience not to be missed.

Lucali opens at six, and you'd better be there at six if you want to get a table. This place fills up quick. Beloved by locals, envied by other restaurants, and frequented by celebrities, Lucali is the "upper crust" of pizza. It's Beyonce's favorite pizza place, if that tells you anything -- seriously, Google it. Roberta's, eat your heart out.

Self-respecting Chinese food enthusiasts know what to look for in a takeaway place. Wing Hua is Chinese takeaway par excellence, which is obvious as soon as you walk in and hear the cooks scrambling, their shouts barely audible over the sizzle of veggies and chicken on the grill. The food here is dirt-cheap. It's not luxurious. But at the end of the month, or when you're just plain hankering for some moo goo gai pan, this is the only place worth ordering from.

This sleepy coffee shop doesn't look like much from the outside, but walk inside and you'll find out why it's become a local hotspot in the last few years. The seating is plentiful, the coffee is strong, and the fig-and-goat-cheese sandwiches are -- plainly amazing.

Essentials

An amazing up-scale grocery store and sandwich shop. Grab a coffee, some essentials, but don't leave without trying a roast turkey sub or one of their daily specials. Stay a while if you want -- there's tons of seating in here too.

Nothing fancy, just a variety of dry goods, frozen foods, ice creams, and whatever essentials you might need for your stay. A handy go-to steps from home.

Very quick turnaround on clothes if you choose to have them do the work for you, and the rates are affordable.

A bit of a walk, but it's a scenic one, and if you need something extra-particular or just want to browse an amazing selection of fresh, local foods and specialty items, Whole Foods is your best bet. There's a restaurant on the roof as well, which is why I've always gone here, and the views are great.

A shadowy but inviting bar full of 20 and 30-somethings meeting up after work for cocktails. The beers are affordable and the cocktails are unique.

Parks & Nature

Gorgeous park with miles of trails and open land to have a picnic, grill, or just people-watch. This place gets a lot of attention in the summer, but there's always room to lay down a blanket and stretch out.

Entertainment & Activities

Why go to Manhattan to see a movie when you don't have to? Cobble Hill Cinema is a cute local spot with cheaper ticket prices and an amazing location close to the Trader Joe's, Court Street Books, and a dozen great restaurants.
