Food Scene

My favorite place for breakfast is The Hi Spot on 34th in Madrona. The coffee is amazing. The raspberry jam is delicious and the pastries come from a bakery downtown. My favorite breakfast item is Huevos a la Mexicana. Tip - you can call ahead to put your name on the wait list. It's a fun and hearty walk up Pine Street. it will take you on various walking paths.

This is my go to local grocery store. They have anything you need AND an amazing wine section, cheese section, beer selection and deli. Friday evenings at 4 they start selling prime rib and sell until it's gone. It's usually only a couple of hours and you can't reserve it. The a jus is amazing.

Cactus is my favorite restaurant in Madison Park. I love their steak salad. If I have time I like to walk over along the lake. There are some pocket parks along the way and you pass by the WA Tennis Club if you stick close to the shoreline.

Columbia city is a great area to visit. Geraldine's has fabulous brunch. Their omelets are amazing. My favorite is the herb omelet. There is often a wait, but it's worth it. The owner is a great guy. Counter seats typically have a shorter wait.

They deliver. Their pizza is very good, there are lots of options, some with unusual toppings. There is one fairly close on Madison St, but they have several around the city. One of my favorites is the agog. -Their Pagliacci Salad is very good (salami, provolone, etc).

I love the location of this restaurant for an amazing meal ($$$) and also for their happy hour in the bar. I also love the big E on the roof. Make it a few hour trip and take a walk north to the Seattle Art Museum Sculpture Park. It is one of my favorite outdoor sculpture parks in the USA (after Storm King in NY and the outdoor sculpture park in DC on the mall).

This is one of my "go to" restaurants if I want to go out for something special. I love their food. On certain nights they have trapeze artists performing above the dining tables in the main dining area. They also have a great but small bar and they have expanded to an area that overlooks the Puget Sound. Reservations here and at most places downtown are recommended.

This neighborhood south of the house is one of my favorites. There are great restaurants, an amazing farmer's market on Wednesdays and a nice vibe. For a great Italian Dinner Medusa's is very good. Geraldine's is a brunch favorite of mine, listed earlier in my guide. The pizza and atmosphere in Tutabella is great. It's close to Seward Park, one of my favorite parks in Seattle. The drive along the lake to get to Columbia City and Seward Park is beautiful. NOTE - in late spring/summer lake washington blvd starting in Mt. Baker to Seward Park is closed to bikes and pedestrians only. NO CARS. Perhaps you'll enjoy renting a bike and enjoying the day

Sightseeing

Seward Park is 5.5 miles from my house. It's a great flat, beautiful training run. I love to ride my bike there. If you go around the park you add 1.5 miles I think. The walk around the park is stunning with views of Mt. Rainier at the South side. There are Eagle's nests in the interior, old growth forests, so don't just walk around the outer rim. Many owls also live here. It's one of the only places in the Puget sound region where you can anchor over night. This is why you will see lots of boats in the bay, especially during the weekends. A nice walk is to drive or uber to Mt. Baker Boat house and walk to and from Seward Park. On 50th you'll find a lovely book store Third Place books and Ike'sHop shop; where I think they have food. It's close by to seward park.
