Sightseeing/Hiking trails

Here are some of our favorite hiking trails that are fairly close by! We would also recommend checking out this link for some others close by! https://www.buffaloriver.com/hike-type/top-hiking-trails/
moderate to difficult hike: The Compton Trail-head/Hemmed-in-Hollow: is only 1 mile down the road towards Ponca from the cabin. This is about a 5 mile hike round trip. This is a beautiful hike that ends at Hemmed-in-Hollow which is the tallest waterfall between the Rockies and Appalachian Mountains! It is definitely worth visiting! I will preface this by saying that it is about a 2.5 mile hike all down hill into Hemmed-in-Hollow which means 2.5 miles back up hill to get back to the trail-head. So it is a bit more strenuous of a hike. Plan for 4-5 hours of hiking to complete the hike. Make sure to pack plenty of water and snacks! Here is a picture of the reward at the end of the hike in!

Lost Valley Trail is located near the Boxley Valley Historic District on Hwy. 43 and is the most popular hike at Buffalo National River. Lost Valley Trail is an easy to moderate hike with occasional benches on the first portion of trail for resting and watching wildlife.

Extremely easy hike Twin Falls trail--This trail is a short 70 yard hike from the trail head. The end result is 2 amazing waterfalls. If there has been enough rain, then you may see 3! This is a very easy hike to the falls however the road to get to it can be a bit treacherous. I do not recommend this unless you are in an All wheel drive or 4WD vehicle as the drive in is down a steep dirt/gravel/bumpy road.

Food Scene

The cabin is about 20-25 minutes from the closest larger town of Harrison. So come prepared to cook at the cabin or venture a little further out sometimes for food! JB Trading Co is the closest general store about 2 miles from the cabin and has some staples.
Fun little roadside cafe! Come as you are place but with a surprisingly high quality food They have a good variety on their menu from salads to burgers to pasta, you can't go wrong! About a 45 minute drive from the cabin. To get there, take the gravel road back to Hwy 43. Take a right towards Ponca. Once through Ponca, turn left onto Hwy 74 towards Jasper. Now located in Jasper!

Nearby towns/ Attractions for longer stays

We've included some things to do if you want to venture a little further away from the Buffalo River Park. Northwest Arkansas and southwest Missouri are some of the most beautiful parts of the country and hold some hidden gems.
This quaint, unique, historic little town is nestled in the Ozark Mountains and only about an hour away from The Hideaway. There is a variety of stuff to see and do including little shops, restaurants, and even ghost tours of the historic haunted Crescent Hotel! On almost any given weekend you can find a festival of some sort going on downtown.

At one point Branson was known as "Little Nashville." Although some of the more famous personas have either moved away or passed away, this town is a fun place to go for a live show or a good meal. You can even go the the old time Ozarks themed amusement park Silver Dollar City or check out the outlet malls for some shopping. Branson is a little less than an hour away from The Hideaway just over the Arkansas/Missouri border.
