Auckland city at Xmas / New Years
The city can be very quiet as many people leave the city for the summer holidays. Make sure you call ahead for any entertainment, arts or restaurant/cafe visits to check opening hours.
Downtown Auckland is less safe than it used to be since Covid hardships, I would avoid this area after dark.
Samgöngur
Grey Lynn and Ponsonby at night
The area is safe but there are a number of interesting characters from social housing etc around the neighbourhood. Most are completely harmless and any negative encounters would likely be bad luck / timing but do have your wits about you after dark.
