The magnificent Gloucester Cathedral was built in 1100 as a Norman abbey church and survived the Dissolution thanks to its historical connection with the monarchy. It has one of the largest medieval stained glass windows in England and an elegant and impressive interior. It was from this church that William I ordered the Domesday Book, and, in more recent history, the cathedral was graced by the filming of more than one Harry Potter movie. The Cathedral offers a wealth of things to see and do from climbing the tower to special family activities and events. We also have a Coffee Shop you can relax in after exploring and a Gift Shop full of interesting products.

While discovering the Forest of Dean, go beneath the Forest floor to discover a whole new world. This is a natural cave system mined for ochre pigments and iron ore for over 4,500 years. Nine large caverns and winding passageways are open to visitors, with exciting displays throughout your journey. On the surface, the Lamp Room Cafe serves delicious cakes, coffees and snacks. There's a great Gift Shop with studio ceramics, jewellery, gems and gifts. Children's play area. The Cafe, Gift shop and play area, can be visited separately from the Caves. Dogs are welcome in the cafe and shop but are not allowed underground. Nice walks over the surrounding common land (Clearwell Meend). Plenty of free parking. Exciting special events through the year, including underground music and theatre. Try the adventure caving, to the lower levels - check website for dates. Discover the Wonder of Under.

Founded by the Dean Forest Railway Society in 1970, the Dean Forest Railway runs along part of the old Severn & Wye Railway lines, which were first built as a tramroad over 200 years ago. The current railway line is approximately 4 1/2 miles long, running from Lydney Junction Station (close to the mainline railway station and a short walk from the harbour) at the south end of the line to Parkend (a small forest village) at the north end of the line. The main station of the railway is located at Norchard, on Forest Road, in the middle of the line, where you will find a large, free car park, shop, museum and café.
