Back to nature in this tranquil little wooden building, beautiful antique windows reveal a gentle vista of rolling hills and open skies. It's Ireland's answer to glamping, (with a solid roof over your head ;) ) yet the feeling of being out in nature.
This is a glamping experience, it is a warm, dry, insulated wooden cabin with a comfortable bed and lovely views. Be prepared to wander through the garden to kitchen and w.c. Umbrella and torch provided. Wifi available in the kitchen cabin, not in the Cosy Cabin itself. Experience the exquisite night-time quiet of the countryside, awaken to the soothing cooing of woodpigeons and the country sounds of rooster 'Jenkins' and his flock of happy hens. Lounge in the garden as Red Kites soar overhead and, in season, snack on organic produce, especially our sweet organic grapes from the polytunnel. Look up at the milkyway sketched across the night sky and inhale sweet clean air. The cabin accommodates 2 people, it has its own solar power supply, its south-east facing big windows provide beautiful views of the surroundings. The bed is a comfortable double and there's a fold out table and chairs and an outdoor picnic table. BREAKFAST: A basket of breakfast goodies will be provided for you to dine at your leisure. A 30 meter stroll through the garden brings you to the kitchen and a wc/shower room which are housed in a separate cabin. You are welcome to cook in the communal kitchen and make teas and coffee (provided) whenever you please. The kitchen has a small fridge, two hot plates and pots and pans. You'll be sharing the kitchen with other guests, you also have the option to eat in your cabin or at your private picnic table. We have a garden Chimenea and you are welcome to light a fire there. But we ask you to bring your own fuel, a bag of logs or bale of briquettes and fire-lighters.
"There is not in this wide world a valley so sweet" Stroll from the house to the beautiful Avondale Arboretum with the Avonmore river flowing down from the Wicklow National Park to the Meeting-of-the-Waters made famous by Thomas Moore's song. A twenty minute drive will bring you to the golden sands of Brittas bay or the stunning beauty of Glendalough. Rathdrum nestles in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains and offers direct access to all the beauty "The Garden of Ireland" has to offer. The Wicklow Way & Lugnaquilla mountain are some of the nearby hiking highlights. The Clara Lara Funpark and Greenane Maze and Farm Museum are great for kids. And not to forget the beautiful Avondale Forest Park just a 15min walk from your cabin, the riverwalk there is simply stunning. Have a look at our other listing so you can book for a whole family.

Stone walled self catering cottage, secluded, great views, excellent walks, close to Arklow and Wicklow towns. An hour from Dublin, Queen size bed and double sleeper couch, separate bathroom, kitchen/living room.Remote location, wifi available.
Spacious, well equipped, authentic old stone cottage, ( circa 1640's). Two levels. Outside deck/patio area. Separate bedroom and bathroom area. Log stove.
The location is remote, no street lights or passing traffic... The quietness at night is unique. The rising sun in the east over the Irish sea is clearly visible from the deck area. The stars at night are magnificent in the clear winter skies. We love the solitude and feeling of space the location provides.

The barn is a long vernacular stone building nestled in a quiet valley near the Wicklow border with a wood floored huge interior space (about 20 x 5metres) and a large open fireplace. It sleeps up to 17 people comfortably and is mainly used for yoga retreats and low key family gatherings so not suitable for parties or boozy events.
The sensitively renovated barn is ideal for large groups. Its stunning large vernacular space is used mainly for yoga retreats, meditation groups and family reunions. The space fits about 25 people on yoga mats and we provide mats, bricks, blocks belts and blankets for up to 17 practitioners. At night the 18th century stone walls sparkle with candles and the big fire is central to the gatherings. With Ireland's inclement weather the spacious interior can absorb people of all ages and interests even if it's pouring outside. Dry logs for the big fire can be picked up from the local grocery store. There is a well equipped kitchen with a new large electric cooker, an American style fridge , another smaller fridge and microwave. There are two dishwashers to facilitate food prep and clean up for big groups. There are benches and chairs and enough big pots, serving platters and cutlery to seat over 20 people. Bedrooms: In the long barn there are three bedrooms and three bathrooms. The ground floor bedroom has a double bed and a bunk bed with the bathroom beside it. (This bathroom is also for general use for the barn during the day). It sleeps up to three people There is a bedroom above this with two single beds and an ensuite bathroom with shower. The third bedroom is on the far side above the kitchen and has a double bed plus a single bed. There is a shower in one enclosure and sink/wc in the other - this one has no blinds or curtains so it's bright on summer mornings! The extension has four bedrooms: One twin ensuite room with a nice view to the zen garden. One ensuite bedroom with two bunks (sleeping four). There is a divide between the beds so it feels quite separate. Then two further smaller bedrooms. Both with two beds and a divider to keep the beds separate. They share a large bathroom with bath and shower. Farmhouse The farmhouse has a further two bedrooms, one with a double bed (the master) The other bedroom has a bunk bed and a single bed so it can sleep three. They share a bathroom . There's a basic kitchen downstairs and sitting room. The sitting room has a small day bed. It's a house full of character built in 1770, a bit bockity and ancient but full of charm. The farmhouse issn't included in the price fo the barn so if you need extra accommodation let me know and I can send you a quote.
Monalea is situated on the side of a beautiful hill on an ancient road that crosses the Wicklow mountains, This is a quiet road in an agricultural valley with not many cars and only the odd tractor. There are some houses nearby, but not visible from the house so it's not completely isolated but when night falls there is the pure dark quiet of the countryside. There's a hike behind the house up towards Croghan mountain and you can do an hour's walk ending up beside the Gap pub where you can have refreshments and either walk home on the road or avail of the shuttle bus service Sean offers day and night - he knows the barn well! There's a small river running at the bottom of the hill and plenty of cows and sheep in the fields. There is fly fishing in a lake 3km away, archery about 5km away and a holistic centre nearby.

Amazing scenery - traditional Irish cottage only 1 hour from Dublin. 'Beautifully Restored' - said The Daily Telegraph. 'Picture Perfect' - said The Irish Times. Sleeps up to 7 in 4 bedrooms. Irish tradition high in the Wicklow Mountains 20 minutes Glendalough Lake. Ideal for hiking Lugnaquilla, hill walking and relaxing. Old world style with modern conveniences. Internet, phone , TV, fully equipped kitchen, central heating, open fire. A perfect break if visiting Dublin. Total peace and privacy.
Get away from it all ! This is the real thing - an amazing Irish holiday cottage deep in the Wicklow Mountains yet only an hour from Dublin. "Beautifully restored" said the Daily Telegraph newspaper. Ideal for climbing Lugnaquilla mountain this is a perfect way of discovering the real Ireland. The Sunday Business Post said "A beautiful, traditional Irish cottage tucked away in a forested valley in the Wicklow Mountains, the 19th century Aughavannagh Cottage is lovingly restored with all mod cons. Located at the mid-way point of the Wicklow Way, it is an ideal base to explore nearby glens, old military roads, pilgrim trails and remote mountain routes - Glendalough and Brittas Bay beach are only half an hour away'. You have the whole cottage and spacious private grounds to yourself. The cottage comprises 4 bedrooms sleeping up to 7. There are 2 beautiful double bedrooms upstairs both with great views and sharing a pretty shower room and w.c. Downstairs there is a large twin room and a single bedroom both sharing a bathroom with bath, power shower and w.c. The magnificent kitchen is fully equipped with every modern convenience - electric oven and hob, fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher and everything an enthusiastic cook would need. The cosy sitting room comes complete with open fire, TV, internet, DVD player , iPod docking station and a library of books and board games. The entire house is tastefully decorated in cool traditional creams and off-whites and provides a haven for rest and relaxation or a base for an activity break. Tranquility and peace and yet so easily accessible - it's hard to believe that the vibrant city of Dublin is only an hour away! Please bear in mind that this is a remote, rural location. The great pub is 10 minutes drive and the village 15 minutes. And more than anything - it is very beautiful!
Aughavannagh Cottage is set in a dramatic mountain landscape with fabulous views. Perfect for hiking, mountain climbing, hill walking and enjoying the outdoors. There are pretty villages and welcoming pubs and restaurants nearby including Aughrim - our favourite. Woods and streams, deep glens and high mountains provide the perfect backdrop in which to discover the real Ireland. The beautiful valley of Glendalough is 20 minutes away and the lovely blue flag beach at Brittas Bay is half an hour down the valley. The cottage is situated in a peaceful wooded glen at the foot of Luqnaquilla, Wicklow's highest mountain, which rises to 1000 metres behind the cottage. In the local area there is golf, hill walking, mountain climbing, fishing, sailing and blue flag beaches. The cosmopolitan and vibrant city of Dublin is a little over an hour away.

At the foot of Lugnaquilla Mountain, Aghavannagh Barracks offers a unique base for walking in the Wicklow hills or relaxing by the fire. The house has been carefully restored over the last seven years, with comforts such as log burners and original style shutters. There are beautiful formal gardens and mountains to look out upon from the six windows in the bedroom. It is the perfect place for a weekend getaway and worth spending two nights here to fully appreciate the quietness and the space.
Aghavannagh Barracks is a unique place to stay being the only Barracks on the Military Road with original layout and features. Once the shooting lodge of Charles Stuart Parnell it is now a comfortable family home. We are 1.5 km from the Iron Bridge on the Wicklow Way. It is worth noting for guests walking the Wicklow Way that there is nowhere to eat within walking distance and they must bring their own ready made food.
Aghavannagh is a very peaceful location, the perfect get away from busy cities. Ideal for relaxing in front of the fire with a good book. We are 25 minutes from Glendalough and a 90 minute drive from Dublin. There are many gardens near us also, Powerscourt, Mount Usher, Kilmacurragh and Altamont to name a few.

Located in the heart of Clara Vale, surrounded by the Wicklow Mountains... close to small Villages, Pubs & Shops and endless Walks

An exceptional rustic retreat in the heart of Glendalough, ‘An Cillín’ takes its aesthetic cue from its stunning natural surroundings and echoes the ancient welcoming atmosphere of the historic monastic city which it overlooks. This is a truly unique studio cottage, with bog oak and yew timber features, an antique limestone sink and leaded glass church windows. Cosey up next to an authentic wood burning stove and enjoy our ‘monsoon’ rain shower or watch the stars from your own private garden
An adjoining courtyard framed by beautiful, traditional willow fences and featuring an outdoor pizza oven and fire pit, provides the perfect setting to enjoy a glass of wine to the soundtrack of mountain streams and The Glendasan river. You will also have access to your own private terraced garden that boasts unrivaled views of the valley, and Derrybawn and Camadeery mountains. Adorned with ancient granite ‘mushrooms’ and benches, and two incredibly comfy ‘egg swing chairs’ this is the ideal spot to drink in the postcard perfect vista.
Just five minutes from the famous Glendalough Round Tower, ‘An Cillín’ is the ideal place from which to explore Glendalough. We are within walking distance of the nearby award-winning Wicklow Heather Restaurant but transport to and from the restaurant can be arranged should you so desire. The Conservatory Cafe opens daytime Saturdays and Sundays and deserves its renown as a very special place to dine.

Our house is situated in a quiet peaceful area but only 5 mins drive from Rathdrum and Glendalough. The area has scenic views of beautiful countryside with rolling hills and fields. We're not overlooked so it's very private. Rathdrum village has pubs, supermarket, restaurants, bank, chemist, butchers, playground and park. Avondale house and gardens have a variety of walking trails and picnic area. Kilmacurragh gardens and Aboretum and lovely coffee shop, with its beautiful trees and azaleas and perrenial borders is 15 mins drive away. Glendalough and its lakes are 5 mins drive away with access to the Wicklow way and plenty of walking trails. There are many activities to do in the immediate area. Clara vale is a beautiful area which has a picturesque bridge and church beside a river and a grassy area suitable for picnics. There is also the Clara vale forest walk. The forest walk is a nature reserve and a proposed site of special scientific interest, with one of the largest stands of native hardwoods in the country. Also Clara Lara Funpark is one and a half miles away. Great day out for families. Also, Greenan maze and farm museum is about 5 mins drive. Glenmalure valley and Lugnaquilla (highest mountain in Leinster) is 15 mins drive. At the rear of the property we have our own access to the forest behind us with many walking/running trails and Kirikee Mountain. There are over a dozen golf courses within half an hours drive from the house including Druids Glen and Macreddin.
  • Fullkominn staður til að vera á einni nóttu áður en þú ferð í gönguferðir

    Abel2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Bernie og Vince eru yndisleg par sem stíga þessi auka skref til að láta þig líða velkominn. Okkur langar til að fara aftur!

    Rob2019-10-13T00:00:00Z

    Kendra2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Bernie og Vincent eru yndislegir gestgjafar. Herbergið er frábært og rúmið mjög þægilegt. Þau eru mjög hjálpleg ef þú vilt skipuleggja ferðir. Morgunmaturinn með heimabökuðu brauði var líka eitthvað sem maður fær ekki svona oft. Ég get aðeins mælt með því.
