CASA DA LEVADA - FAMILAIL TOURISM

Casa da Levada is a family home in the Aboboreira Mountain, between Amarante and the Douro Valley. It is really a small castle in a settlement built of rough-hewn, moss-covered granite blocks where people and animals still live cheek by jawl. The house is a mountain refuge, owned by Maria, a retired English teacher and Luis a humurous man whose family have lived here for 300 years. You'll sleep in bedrooms, all with private bathrooms, granite walls, wooden ceilings, beams and sisal matting. The lounge is comfortable and the dining room barn-like, with a large table at which everyone has breakfast in the morning (cooked by Luis) or dinner at the end of the day, Then you have the opportunity to taste Maria's food, hear stories from the House and the region and exchange experiences with the host and other guests. Up the hill, you pass granite water mills, and further up is bleak hilltop with great boulders and dolmens. In the village there no shops or restaurants, but you can order a meal at the House or go to Amarante, a town with history and tradition in its good food and desserts or Mesao Frio, both 15km away. There are different places you can visit not far from Travanca do Monte and according to your interests - nature, monuments, cute small villages, good food - Luis is a good help. If you really love nature and enjoy the sound of the silence, you should spend some time at Casa da Levada! We will be there to welcome you!
