Jane and Reg invite you to share the beautiful cottage at Hafod Wen. Sitting snugly to the side of the Main House, this charming 1920's building is an independent unit which was added to Hafod Wen when Cadbury’s the chocolate maker turned Hafod Wen into a convalescence home for their male employees. Initially built to house the warden, in the 1930's it became the home of the significant British composer, Joseph Holbrooke. Some say on a quiet night the lyrical sound of his violin concerto "The Grasshopper” can be heard in the murmuring breeze. We will leave you to decide. The conservatory style entrance hall, at the back of Hafod Wen, leads to light filled rooms each with large windows framing the panoramic views of Cardigan bay, The Royal St David’s Golf Course, set in the sand dunes below (an SSSI) and the Snowdonia range of mountains beyond. The interior of the cottage has been furnished with the owners distinctive and inimitable style. Featuring a mixture of antique and 1930’s furniture, artworks and sculptures, with stylish fabrics, bedding and soft furnishings. The large kitchen with a dining area has its own French window leading to the patio with barbeque and seating area.
Jane and Reg invite you to share with them the beautiful house and grounds of Hafod Wen. Situated on the outskirts of Harlech, the house nestles on the escarpment overlooking the majestic sweep of Harlech beach, the sea, and towards the Snowdonia mountains. Morfa Harlech directly below the house is a designated (SSSI) and our private path leads through it to the public foot path, near Royal St Davids Golf Course, which then leads to Harlech beach. This unique coastal holiday home makes for a very special holiday with over 8 acres of grounds to enjoy. Later belonging to the benevolent Cadbury Quaker family, the famous chocolate manufacturers, it was built in 1904 by an army Colonel who had spent time in South Africa during the Boer War and its design reflects the architecture with Cape Dutch gables and a red tiled roof.
