Það sem verður gert

Learn to make your own washi paper and make art with it

We’ll go to the long-established washi—Japanese paper—shop, where you’ll take part in a workshop making washi paper and enjoy shopping afterwards. Then, you’ll make some Japanese-style art with your favorite washi. Next, we'll make hakoseko, a traditional Japanese bag or pouch. Traditionally in Japan women kept their valuables and accessories in them. Now you can see them worn on special occasions, like weddings and children’s ceremonies.

Hvað er innifalið

I've been making handcrafts for over two decades, including, knitting, crochet, hemp weave, embroidery, bead embroidery, lace knitting, tatting lace, dressmaking, and kimono making. My mother made a rattan weave when I was little and I helped with that. I was fascinated by the art of making crafts by hand since that time.

I had a great time with Chiyo. She was really great at explaining and helping me to make the Hakoseko purse for Kimono out of Washi paper . The tour was really interesting about Washi paper she will translate if you need help, I was pushing and eating my listening skills for Japanese myself but it was helpful to have her near by to explain in English. The making of the Washi paper was fun and interesting but a little tricky, but I did it and I’m glad !! Over all great experience. To learn about this traditional paper and craft,
