OMSI is fun for all ages- it is a short bike ride from the Airbnb. They have a planetarium, a massive movie theater, lots of permanent and rotating interactive exhibits on rotating topics spanning from video games, dinosaurs, animation, bodily functions, robots...etc. Lunch in the OMSI cafe is affordable and the view of the river is magnificent. Walk along the East Side Esplanade after your visit to check out the bridges, river-boats and a flurry of Portlanders jogging, or rolling by on skateboards, bicycles, unicycles etc.

Reed College campus is situated in SE Portland on large sprawling green acreage with many stately mature tree species including elms, oaks and Douglas firs. A Spring-fed creek bed runs through the campus canyon where you can enjoy a quiet shady stroll among the native shrubs, wildflowers, and trees. In the summer, when school is out, is the best time to go.

This bookstore is so massive and comprehensive it is called Powell's City of Books. Magazines, comic books, graphic novels, travel guides, books galore. Prepare to spend hours here- luckily there is a good coffee shop in Powell's too.

The Powell's empire extends to two bookstores on SE Hawthorne. Quick bike ride there, or take bus 14 from downtown. These smaller bookstores are still well-stocked with great books and magazines and also carry amusing novelties like t-shirts, journals, various objects of interest etc etc.

This is the place to score a mohair sweater to make you look like Oscar the Grouch, a plaid Pendleton shirt, a stunning pink leather skirt or a Metallica sweatshirt, etc. Decent prices for most items. :)

This is a party store. Pick up your piñatas, frilled toothpicks, pirate eye-patches, etc here. Or just drive by and gawk at the typically outrageous window displays on your way to OMSI or Boke Bowl.
