Drinks & Nightlife

It's close to our house and has an awesome range of beer and ale for every palate. Best time to go is any time! They also have great outdoor seating spaces with magic firepits.

Another fantastic brewery new on the scene. Beer is $5-10, but there is no tipping and it's all by credit card only. It's sleek, modern, quick, spacious, and great for groups of people as well, or getting to know locals. All seating is shared at huge tables, and the restroom is pretty awesome, too.

The music here is always rad if you're into off-the-beaten-track electronic music. Although there are definitely some big name artists that come through, the music here is unlike your standard top 40 club music. Get ready to dance your butt off in a down-to-earth but still posh club.

Food Scene

It's a bright, modern pastry and coffee shop just a 10 minute walk from the house. I love going here to read with a latte and croissant.

Skillet has some of the best breakfast Seattle has to offer. Has a few veggie options, but their main shtick is some amazing and creative breakfast dishes like Serious Toast, which is a thick slab of rich brioche french toast topped with ham and jam. Their biscuits and gravy are also excellent.

Cafe Flora is excellent for vegan and vegetarians and the health-minded. They do great breakfast and lunch, and have never disappointed. It's hearty, homey, interesting, and absolutely, unfailingly delicious.

This fun and relaxed diner has some really great mac n' cheese, and their Fried Chicken Thursdays are some of the better ones around.

Parks & Nature

Soak up some nice Seattle culture in a lesser-known but still popular sculpture park. It's a great afternoon walk, and it pairs nicely with doing a jaunt around the famous Seattle waterfront. This is good if you want to do the aquarium and/or the wheel.

Fancy a run on the beach or some volleyball? This is basically the only spot in Seattle besides Alki that has a sandy beach, and it's perfect for classic summer activities. Grab a frisbee or hammock and relax on the best (in my opinion) beach in Seattle.

Seward Park is a woodland wonder that's great for bikers or people who like leisurely strolls through forests. Get a taste of Northwest nature in a city sanctuary, and gather some great views of Lake Washington.

Shopping

Ada's is a lovely cafe inside of one of the best bookstores for geeks in Seattle. It has a great selection of technical books, science fiction, and popular science books, and it regularly has visits from lecturers and famous people (George Takei has visited before).

Essentials

Uwajimaya is the ultimate Asian supermarket. It sells everything from packaged Ramen to the freshest seafood to books and stationary, dishes, and beauty products. It's fun to just look around for an hour or two, and to be inspired by all the cool food choices. There's also a small food court attached if you want to take a break for some pastries, frozen yogurt, or fast Chinese/Thai/etc food.

Arts & Culture

The EMP is not just a great museum dedicated to some great Seattle musical artists (it's very rich for Nirvana and Jimi Hendrix), but it also has rotating exhibitions on other pop culture phenomena, and has a permanent science fiction museum in the basement. It's a little pricey, but you get access to a lot of different exhibits and experiences.

Pioneer Square has a dense concentration of excellent, creative art galleries. If you want to see what the visual art scene is like in Seattle, this is a great place to start.
