Shopping

My sister, Louise Damas, makes jewelry that is timeless and affordable—I’m never without one of her pieces! They’re sold at Atelier Couronnes, a boutique she launched with the designer of the leather-goods brand Fauvette. Louise has two collections: one is more costume jewelry, in gold-plated brass, and the other fine jewelry, in silver and vermeil. Head to the back of the shop to catch a glimpse of Louise’s atelier, where each piece is handmade. You’ll probably see her dog, a beautiful akita, lying at her feet.

I love the fine gold pieces created by Nadia, the founder of this jewelry shop, all made on-site. She is best known for her very thin, stackable rings. The ones I own haven’t left my fingers in years! The shop is small, with exposed stone walls, armchairs, and rugs that make it feel like a cozy apartment. Just ring to get in and start exploring. If you don’t find a piece you love from the collection, talk to Nadia about creating your own! She’s happy to work on bespoke pieces.

The designer for this fine jewelry shop—offering romantic, vintage-inspired pieces—used to work in haute couture before switching over to jewelry, and that pedigree shows. Her pieces are more expensive, most incorporating precious stones, and meant to look like family heirlooms. Many of my friends have found their engagement rings here! You can enter the shop without an appointment, but I highly recommend making one if you have a precise idea of what you’re looking for—especially if the gems required are rare.

This shop has three outposts, but I tend to go to the one in the 11th arrondissement, close to home, to check out what new pieces they’ve added. Here, the selection is very much rock ’n’ roll, with chunky rings and necklaces that have snakes or skulls. It’s an ideal spot for women who like more imposing pieces. This style won’t be for everyone nor will they go with every outfit—I like to wear them when I go out to party.

There’s a piece for everyone at this intimate boutique in the Marais, featuring jewelry by nearly 40 different designers. The founder weaves in new styles she discovers during her travels. I love the work of Italian designer Delfina Delettrez, whose pieces tend to be conceptual and use precious stones to make a statement. There’s an eclectic mix of styles at a range of prices in this shop—you can buy for your budget.

This is one of the most elegant, high-end jewelry shops in the city, with pieces from incredible designers hailing from all over the world. Both outposts are stunning, with antique furnishings and display cases and decorative sculptures that make it feel like a warm, inviting home. Look out for the work of Charlotte Chesnais, an ANDAM fashion award winner, whose bestselling vermeil collection—including Hook, Swing, and Saturn earrings—was reprised specifically for the boutique.

A multipurpose boutique in the Marais, with clothing, homewares, accessories, and jewelry for men and women. The jewelry selection has a nice range of fine investment pieces and more-affordable bohemian pieces from designers like Aime, 5 Octobre, or Alexandra Margnat. Whenever I’m looking for jewelry as a gift, I come here. I like to do my shopping then stay for lunch at the organic canteen on the lower level. The menu changes regularly.
