Mount Tabor is an inactive volcano within Portland City limits. There are numerous walking trails and it isn't too far from our home in Northeast Portland. It is also close to Hawthorne Boulevard, a shopping district known for its hippie-ish vibe.

Collage is a unique arts supply store and Frock and Tumbleweed have interesting and creative women's clothing. Cha'Ba Thai offers excellent Thai food and the Vita Cafe is popular with vegetarians. Back to Eden Bakery is a dedicated non-gluten bakery with amazing pastries. The Alberta Street Pub House and the Alberta Rose Theater have nightly shows.

The McMenamin Brothers are known for renovating historical buildings and turning them into restaurants, bars, hotels and spas. The Kennedy School was once an elementary school but is now a multi-purpose entertainment center and hotel. There are cheap movies (with optional pizza and beer), bars, a restaurant in what was the cafeteria, interesting art and a soaking pool. There is often live music in the former gym.

Sightseeing
The garden is a peaceful oasis in the middle of busy downtown Portland and occupies an entire city block. Most of the plants are native to China and the building structures were created and carved in China and shipped to Portland. There is a lovely traditional tea house on the premises.
