Entertainment & Activities

It's a Melbourne icon (but don't expect any thrilling rides). Recommend taking the roller coaster, it's more of a scenic ride.

There is a movie theatre at Crown, there's also a massive casino, a gaming arcade, heaps of restaurants, heaps of retail (open till midnight), a day spa, and restaurant Dinner by Heston. The entertainment complex is open 24/7 (but not all restaurants & shops).

Cool rock-climbing place, not good for those with fear of heights. Wear appropriate gear (gym-gear is fine), they do equipment & shoe hire.

Heaps of bars & restaurants along southbank. Also rub shoulders with the after work crowd if that's your thing! Also nice views of Melbourne CBD (just ignore the brownness of the water & rubbish catchments) - lovely on a fine night, amazing photo ops

This place is new to me, even though I've lived in Melbourne my whole life. It's on the rooftop next to the building that houses rooftop bar (the name of the bar). You access it via an elevator which is located inside the restaurant on Swanston St. They do amazing cocktails.

Another really Melbournian hangout place with live music on the weekends. Nice place to stop by for a drink & enjoy the views of the water, especially sunset time.

Lovely lake where the Grand Prix is held. You can hire a paddle boat, go for a walk or run (5kms), hire a sailboat, have a bbq and enjoy the view! There are also restaurants for you to check out.

Sightseeing

Check out the unique (hideous) architecture, quite a unique spot though, when there are events on they tend to show things on the large screen. Cultural events also get held here, ACMI is here (Australian Centre of Moving Image) which show some pretty cool exhibits.

Docklands can be lovely when it's not too windy, the water even looks blue when it's a sunny day. Wikipedia says.... Before the foundation of Melbourne, Docklands was a wetlands area consisting of a large salt lake and a giant swamp (known as West Melbourne Swamp) at the mouth of the Moonee Ponds Creek. It was one of the open hunting grounds of the Wurundjeri people, who created middens around the edges of the lake. Worth visiting just to see it, there's a heap of business buildings (hoardes of suits entering and exiting buildings at start/finish times), heap of new apartments and home to the giant Melbourne Observation Wheel, which is expensive but worth going on to check out the views. Personally I prefer the view of the wheel from afar, especially at night, it's super colourful. There is also a kinda lame shopping centre called Harbour Town, right near Costco.

Ok this is kind of lame, I really like driving over the west gate bridge when it's dark, towards the city, as there's amazing views of the industrial landscape as well as the city buildings. You'll also get to check out the Melbourne Observation Wheel and it's pretty lights.

Go for a cruise along Yarra Boulevard, would recommend doing it at night as you'll come across a lookout area with stunning views of the City at night. Kind of a "secret/not-so-secret" date spot like you see in the movies.

Hipster central of Melbourne. Becoming a little commercialised of late. While you're there, check out Naked for Satan, rooftop bar.

Really cool art exhibits, definitely worth checking out. Even if you don't want to see the exhibits, still check out the building & the waterfall fall thingy. Kids love putting their hands up against it. Pretty cool photo ops too.

If you like pork belly, and Asian food, you must go here. They have the most amazing pork belly. I have considered going there just to order the pork belly. They have express lunches as well. You'll probably need to book if going on a Fri/Sat night.

Bar/Restaurant for a very Melbourne experience. Food is really decent here. And lots of beards. May need to book as it tends to get busy always, otherwise try your luck and you could probably get seated in the bar area where there are still tables for you to eat. Really yummy cocktails too. Also a rooftop bar at the top of this building.
