In the Grutas de S. Vicente you can find out a little about the formation of the island. At the end of the route, you can also access the Volcanism Center which allows you to discover about volcanoes, the geological evolution of the caves and the simulation of the birth of the Madeira Archipelago through recreational activities and audiovisual shows.

Of volcanic origin, these caves are composed of a series of lava tubes, the result of an eruption that happened 890 thousand years ago. The pedestrian path has a length of 700 metres that takes around 30 minutes to view, with help of a tour guide and a maximum slope of about 19 metres.
