The Museum of Liverpool is the world’s first national museum devoted to the history of a regional city and the largest newly-built national museum in Britain for more than a century. In 2018, it marked 10 years on Liverpool’s UNESCO World Heritage Site waterfront and 10 years of representing Liverpool’s unique and interesting history. Enjoy accessible and engaging exhibits showcasing Liverpool’s popular culture, hop on board the overhead railway and discover social, historical and contemporary issues associated with the city region. More than 6,000 objects bring Liverpool’s incredible heritage to life, celebrating thousands of years of the city’s achievements. Exhibits include Ben Johnson’s Liverpool Cityscape, a life-size Liverbird, the King’s Regiment archive, local archaeology collection and fascinating large objects in the Land Transport collection. Book a place in Little Liverpool and introduce your youngest children to the wonders of the Museum of Liverpool and check out the latest temporary exhibitions. Head to the skylight galleries for an unmissable sweeping view of the Three Graces - this window actually won ‘Best window with a view’ - so is definitely worth a stop off.

What is it? Well, you can probably guess. This museum is dedicated to Liverpool itself and is perched on the banks of the glistening Mersey. Why go? From Liverpool’s unique geography to its rich history and vibrant culture, the Museum of Liverpool will tell you everything you need to know about this fabulous city. Just a short gallop away from RIBA North, the museum documents the importance of Liverpool in relation to the rest of the UK and the vital role the port has played throughout its history. Once inside, you’ll be bombarded with a host of Liverpool-centric things, including archaeological finds, the mythical liver birds, sporting paraphernalia and some (very) iconic tunes. The stunning new Museum of Liverpool is the world’s first national museum devoted to the history of a regional city, demonstrating Liverpool’s unique contribution to the world. This fantastic, free family day includes the stage where John Lennon and Paul McCartney first met, Ben Johnson’s Liverpool Cityscape, a life-size Liverbird, the first Ford Anglia from Ford’s Halewood production line and Chris Boardman’s famous Lotus sport bike. Don’t miss the 360º immersive films about football and The Beatles! Based at the iconic Liverpool Waterfront, this museum is definetly worth a visit !
