The Grottoes of Hercules (also known as the Caves of Hercules) are situated 14 km west of the city of Tangier. This cave is a significant tourist attraction – something which often has a lot to do with its association with Greek mythology. The caves are dating back to 2500 B.C. The cave contains two entrances, one on the sea and is known by its form (a silhouette)that looked like the map of the African continent. It is characterized by its location where the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea meets away some kilometers off the Rock of Gibraltar.
