Drachenburg Castle is a castle on Drachenfels in Königswinter, a town in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia. It was built in record time from 1882 to 1884 in the style of historicism (especially early Gothic on the exterior, and neo-renaissance in the interior) as a representative residence for Stephan von Sarter, who never lived in the castle. After his death, the castle was subjected to several changes in use. In 1986, Drachenburg Castle was placed under monument protection and in 1990 it was placed under the North Rhine-Westphalia Foundation for Nature Conservation, Homeland and Cultural Care. From 1995 to 2010 .it was restored based on the original condition and expanded to a kind of Wilhelminian style museum with a focus on contemporary living culture. For the reconstruction of the entrance stairs, the Bachmann & Wille restoration companies and the Quedlinburg construction hut won the Peter Parler Prize in 2011. The interiors as well as the wall paintings and historicist stained glass have been reconstructed as far as possible in the original design. As an outstanding example of the genre, the palace park is one of the founding members of the street of garden art between the Rhine and Meuse and is part of the European Garden Heritage Network. The museum on the history of nature conservation in Germany is also located in the outer bailey.

One of my favorite 19th Century Dream castles high above the Rhine. Amazing views a beautiful Journey through lush green forests and as a special tipp, order a picnic there and feel just like the owner sitting in the pleasure ground with a glas of Rhine Sparkling!
