On the reconstructed tower of a one-of its kind old bank building the Astronomical Clock is installed. Equipped with a special mechanism it provides unique opportunity to observe the movement of the sun, the moon, of zodiac constellations and planets. In addition, the clock indicates to the Greenwich meridian, the horizon, sunrise and sunset times, phases and rotation of the moon around the earth.

Apart from showing ordinary time,it also provides astronomy-related information; namely, it shows the location of the sun, the moon, constellations and even planets. It also shows the meridian, horizon, sunrise and sunset, the moon’s age and its movement round the earth.

Astronomical Clock - Architectural attraction in Old Batumi, located on the reconstructed tower of the National Bank of Georgia. “Astronomical Clock” equipped with special devices shows us not only real-time but also astronomical information, like the position of the sun, moon, zodiac constellation and planets. It also shows the meridian, the horizon, sunrise and sunset according to sun motion, the age of the moon and the actual motion of the moon around the earth. Astronomical Clock was created in Germany by the order of Batumi city council in 2010 and it cost 1,700,000 GEL. The clock set on the tower is similar to the clock, which is on the town hall of Prague. There is a special desk in front of the clock, explaining the purpose and rules of the use of the astronomical clock.

Одна из необычных достопримечательностей Батуми — астрономические часы (Astronomical Clock Batumi), расположенные в старом городе. Они примечательны тем, что помимо красивого внешнего вида, выполняют и практическую функцию. В них содержится много интересной информации для тех, кто увлекается наукой о Вселенной и небесных телах.
