UNESCO Heritage city of Old Nesebar will take you 3000 years back in time: „Situated on a rocky peninsula on the Black Sea, the more than 3,000-year-old site of Nessebar was originally a Thracian settlement (Menebria). At the beginning of the 6th century BC, the city became a Greek colony. The city’s remains, which date mostly from the Hellenistic period, include the acropolis, a temple of Apollo, an agora and a wall from the Thracian fortifications. Among other monuments, the Stara Mitropolia Basilica and the fortress date from the Middle Ages, when this was one of the most important Byzantine towns on the west coast of the Black Sea. Wooden houses built in the 19th century are typical of the Black Sea architecture of the period.“ It is perfect for strolling along pedestrian streets, sea promenade, drop by archeological museum (opened daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and ride back to civilization in a small train along the coast.

Nesebar is an ancient city and one of the major seaside resorts on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast, located in Burgas Province. It is the administrative centre of the homonymous Nesebar Municipality. Often referred to as the "Pearl of the Black Sea", Nesebar is a rich city-museum defined by more than three millennia of ever-changing history. The small city exists in two parts separated by a narrow man-made cobbled streets with the ancient part of the settlement on the peninsula (previously an island), and the more modern section (i.e. hotels, later development) on the mainland side. The older part bears evidence of occupation by a variety of different civilisations over the course of its existence. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations and seaports on the Black Sea, in what has become a popular area with several large resorts—the largest, Sunny Beach, is situated immediately to the north of Nesebar. Nesebar has on several occasions found itself on the frontier of a threatened empire, and as such it is a town with a rich history. Like Sozopol, Nessebar is one of the oldest cities in Bulgaria. The ancient constructions and ruins are a must see when travelling to Burgas.

One of the most popular tourist destination in region is Ancient town Nessebar. It's one of the most ancient towns in Europe, arising more than 3200 years ago. The ancient town is situated on a small peninsula, long 850 m and wide 350 m, linked with the mainland with a narrow isthmus. Because of its unique natural situation and well preserved monuments from different ages on the VII th Session of the Committee of World Heritage in the town of Florence in 1983 the old town of Nessebar was included in UNESCO’s list of World Heritage.
