Check out the Ped Mall for food, bars, nightlife, shopping, and other events such as free live music on Friday nights and free Saturday night movies on the lawn of the Pentacrest in the summer. Check out the IC Public Library and the outside children's playground and water fountain.

The Ped Mall is the heart and soul of downtown IC. There are tons of local restaurants, shops and bars to explore. You'll find a play ground for the kiddos to play on outside of the public library. There will randomly be live music or an art installation in various places from time to time for you to enjoy while you explore.

You’ll find shopping, bars, restaurants, a grocery store, an independent movie house (Film Scene), chocolates and yogurt, and often live music on the Pedestrian Mall (known as the Ped Mall). It's iconic Iowa City. The vibe changes from family-friendly during the day and early evening to students everywhere at night, particularly on weekends. But evenings downtown are fine for adults of any age. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the city provides free music downtown on Friday nights. Be sure to check it out. There's also a fountain that kids and kids-at-heart can walk through and play in.

In Downtown Iowa City you can walk to restaurants, shops, coffee, live music, yoga, art galleries...and lots more I can't think of at the moment, all in a 1 mile radius. The pedestrian mall is a car-free zone with brick-lined streets and beautiful trees.
