Neighbourhoods

With a village green, old stone monument and stocks, Litton is described as 'a little gem of a White Peak village, set in glorious countryside'. Originally a lead miner's village, and home to a stocking-making industry in the 18th century, locals will tell you that it's "1000 feet up, minus a boy scout!", and with its pretty greens, charming cottages and fabulous walks from the doorstep, Litton evokes the true essence of the Peak District. Just a few strides up the road from the Cotton Loft, which is located in the centre of the village, is the local village pub, the Red Lion, which is a fine old inn serving real ales (go easy on the 'Absolution' ale!) and a good choice of food. The community-run village shop stocks all your essentials and the village also has a Village Hall, small Primary School (Ofsted rated 'excellent') and two churches. Well-dressing is in late June each year and is well worth a visit. Tideswell (Cathedral of the Peak) is one mile away and offer 4 pubs, a Co-op open till late, a fresh fruit and veg shop, a butchers and several cafes/delis/sandwich shops and other local amenities.
