The track starts just a little bit down the road on the left from the cottage which takes you to Porters Pass walking track loop. There are spectacular views and The Grotto canyon are must-see on your visit here. Google and other maps show this track starting from several streets away, but you don't have to go there to access it the loop. If you brave a dip in a cold mountains pool under a waterfall, try Empress Falls. The final pool for the Empress canyoning trip, but you can just jump in yourself any time. Jump off the big rocks on the side, it's a deep and sandy bottom. Prepare to have tourists giving you strange looks though. Finish you dip with lunch back at Conservation Hut.

Just 7 minutes walk from the house, Fort Rock has a stunning panoramic lookout of the Kanimbla valley. Take a bottle of wine and watch the sunset from on top a giant pagoda rock!

If you are more adventurous then climb down the ladders on the side of the cliff to the very bottom of Wentforth Falls where you can go for a dip. Far fewer tourists make it this far down. We don't recommend the Wentworth Falls track as it's in the bottom of the valley with no views. National Pass is much better.

The school across the road allows guests to use their field (spectacular views!) and playground after hours and on weekends and school holidays. Just walk across the road through the sign posted Blackheath Community Garden and you'll find it past the soccer field on the top left through the trees.

If you have to wait to get first in line (very end of the platform), do so, it'll be worth it getting the front seat. It's a difference experience up and back, so we recommend you do both directions.
