Food Scene

One of my Favourite Scottish restaurants, (although not the cheapest) with upmost pride in sourcing fresh Scottish ingredients, Angels with Bagpipes presents a stunning seasonal menu that is divine to both the palate and eye. Mixing an atmospheric Old Town setting with chic, contemporary looks, Angels with bagpipes reflects many of the city’s most defining features. With a humble facade nestled in the beautiful 17th century building, rich tones of bronze and marble cascade throughout the two tiers of Angels with Bagpipes. The upper Dining Room is at the heart of Angels with Bagpipes with French windows that looks down onto Roxburgh Court. Lit with winged angel candlesticks, it is a vibrant, comfortable room that is a delight to dine in for both Lunch and Dinner.

Literally the 'Real Spain' on your doorstep. AUTHENTIC SPANISH FOOD IN THE HEART OF EDINBURGH (just next door to the apartment!) A top recommendation is the Salmorejo Starter and the Presa Iberica. WoW! Their words: We have a great passion for food and we do everything from scratch in our kitchen rather than bringing in ready meals (our hand cut chips are a “must try”). We want to offer to our customers some traditional Spanish meals as well as some more innovative all with the best quality possible and the love that our chefs put in their work. We pride ourselves for using some of the best Spanish products in the market which we bring to UK through different suppliers. Our specialty is the Iberian pork meals. The Iberian pork meat is famous for its flavour and tenderness. You can find more about the history of the Iberian pork in the following section of our website We also believe in supporting the local community and that is why we also source our restaurant with ingredients obtained in the local shops (venison from a local butcher, fruits and vegetables from a local shop, etc)

Just around the corner from the apartment - simply the Best Malaysian restaurant! Great food at great prices, one of my favs! Try the Roti Cenia!! A Must! And their Chicken Sate is the best I have ever tasted. Their words: Mr. Lee is from a family whose previous four generations were all famous chefs. Having an established restaurant in Malaysia, he has dedicated his life to perfecting the art of Malaysian cuisine. With hopes improve his skills, he came to the UK to open his first restaurant in 2007. Kampong Ah Lee, which means “Lee’s village”, has brought an authentic good taste from his home town (Negeri Sembilan) to Edinburgh. The first restaurant proved to be a success. Having tasted Mr Lee’s specialities, people who come to the restaurant always leave with a smile. So, Mr Lee established this bigger “village”, hoping to share this exotic and colourful cuisine, which is a combination of styles from the East and the West, with more people in this city. Malaysian cuisine is exotic with an exciting range of flavours and culinary styles offering the uninitiated and endless gastronomic adventure. It comprises three main groups; Malay, Chinese and Indian with each having its own distinct style of cooking.

For me this is the best Chinese (Szechuan) Restaurant in Edinburgh. Very simple and unassuming but try their Salt and Pepper Squid!! It's right opposite the Fountain Park Cinema complex with around 10 screens. The Chinese people eat here too, says a lot!! Try it!

Fabulous and right around the corner 2 mins walk from the apartment! Beautifully preserved, the beloved King’s Theatre is a treasured piece of Edinburgh history. Built as a variety theatre in 1906, the King's now presents a seasonal mix-bag of treats for the people of Edinburgh; in spring and autumn the King's is home to West End plays and touring drama, in summer Edinburgh International Festival, and in winter the ever-popular King's panto.   Over the years countless legends of screen and stage have treaded the King's boards, from heroes of variety Rikki Fulton and Jimmy Logan, to superstars Maria Callas, Sir Sean Connery and Sir Ian McKellen. we defy anyone not to fall in love with the charm of this iconic venue.

Parks & Nature

Holyrood Park is a short walk from Edinburgh’s Royal Mile in the heart of the city. It is a 640 acre Royal Park adjacent to Holyrood Palace. The parks highest point is Arthurs Seat, an ancient volcano, and sits 251m above sea level giving excellent view of the city; it is also the site of a large and well preserved fort. This is one of four hill forts dating from around 2000 years ago. With its diverse range of flora and geology it is also site of Special Scientific Interest. Within the park you can also visit St Anthony’s Chapel - a 15th century medieval chapel, Salisbury Crags – a series of 150 foot cliff faces dominating Edinburgh’s skyline as well as Duddingston Loch – a fresh water loch rich in birdlife. The Meadows (100 yards from the apartment) is a large public park in Edinburgh, Scotland, to the south of the town centre.[1] It consists largely of open grassland crossed by tree-lined paths, but also has a children's playground,[2] a croquet club,[3] tennis courts[4] and recreational sport pitches.[5] It is bordered by the University of Edinburgh's George Square campus and the Quartermile development on the site of the old Edinburgh Royal Infirmary to the north and Marchmont to the south.[1] To the south-west it becomes Bruntsfield Links where there is a free, public pitch and putt golf course.[5] People playing rugby in the spring History[edit] Cricket in the Meadows View of Arthur's Seat from the Meadows The Meadows originally contained a loch, known as the "burgh loch" or, later, the "South Loch". It covered much of the area bounded in the east by Hope Park Terrace and in the west by the point where Melville Drive becomes Brougham Street, and in the south by Melville Drive and in the north by the site later occupied by the Old Royal Infirmary, a total of 63 acres (250,000 m2). The loch drained from east to west, where the burn known as the Loch-rin was sluiced to prevent the water from draining out. It is from this burn that the street names Lochrin Buildings and Lochrin Place in Tollcross derive. Until Edinburgh's first piped water supply from Comiston arrived in 1621, the loch provided much of the town's drinking water.

This is a great place to browse if you are searching for a unique gift. You’ll find a number of independent stores offering interesting items for the home. There are some antique shops, home décor, fashion and jewelery stores. You’ll also find some good charity and thrift stores in Morningside. It is an eclectic mix that will suit shoppers out for a leisurely wander with no particular purchase in mind. The chances are good that something will catch your eye. It's also famously known as the place where 'ladies like to lunch'!!
