Drinks & Nightlife

Filipinos are mall dwellers (no kiddin!). We spend our leisure and family time in the malls to do window shopping, dine, watch movies then go home at night, and that makes us happy. And so this was built -- SM Mall of Asia is the biggest mall in Asia, or maybe the biggest there is?? But it is not as bad as it sounds. If you are looking for something you cannot find elsewhere, maybe this is the place you can get it. It is so huge, you will be confused what to buy in the first place. But anyway, there is a strip of bars and restaurants thriving here at night. Walk on the bay side (yes there is water!) during sun down is one of the best sights.

You know Amsterdam Red light district? Yes that kind! It's here. This place is where foreign individuals from all walks of life come together. This place is alive -- music bars, restaurants, night clubs, gay clubs, hostels, hotels, another mall..everything.

Sightseeing

Visit Intramuros or the Walled City to get a glimpse of the Old Manila under the Spanish occupation. European architecture and cobblestone pavements -- built during the 16th century. It was built mainly to defend Manila from invaders. This is a must see. It may be a little hot during noon. It would be best to go there in the morning or later in the afternoon. Or wear sun screen when you decide to go there at any given time.

Arts & Culture

Not so far away on the busy streets of Manila where sirens and jeepney honks are loud, you will find this building standing tall and proud - it is the National Museum of the Philippines. The place celebrates the centuries-old paintings and work of generations of World Renowned and National Artists alike. Some paintings were taken back from Spain --big effort! The gov't also recently renovated the facility to make it appealing so why not visit :)

Who would not know our No. 1 Hero, our national mentor, and his words that resonate among us until this time, Dr. Jose Rizal. In tagalog language, we put "Gat" prior to the name to address a Hero, to let it be known he is a Hero. Dr. Rizal came from an "Illustrado" family or upper class, Filipinos who can afford to study back in the day. A polyglot and highly intellectual of his time, he was fluent in 22 languages including Hebrew, Filipino, Chinese, Latin, Spanish, Greek, English, French, German, Arabic, Malay, Sanskrit, Dutch, Japanese, Catalan, Italian, Portuguese, Swedish and Russian. He traveled to Spain and around the world. Fought for our Independence against the Spanish rule.

Entertainment & Activities

This is the nearest, and one of the oldest Amusement Park in Manila. Our parents used to bring us here when we were young. I tell you this with tears flowing down.. kiddin! If you are in for a joy ride, but not as extreme as the ones you will find in your country, it is still worth a visit and have a good time! Unleash yourself and feel free to be a kid once in a while!

See the whales and dolphins! Well sorry..this is not the right place. Sorry to excite you that much. But if you want to check out some sea creatures and know about conservation, check this place out! Similar to Sea world, this place showcases the wonderful under the sea life forms and how the marine ecosystem works. There are also restaurants inside, a 4-star hotel featuring rooms with aquariums and fun activities for kids. Don't miss out!

This is the nearest MRT station. It will take you about 5-10 minutes depending on the traffic situation. Take the train if you are only going around the Metro but avoid the rush from 7am to 10am and 4pm to 7pm from Mondays to Fridays. You do not want to be crashed and squeezed inside the train by people going to and from work on weekdays. Though in itself is a once-in-a-lifetime experience if you want to test your toughness level...third world country level!

Parks & Nature

Our National Park for our dear Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. Within its premise you will also see the Historical Manila Hotel. This was once a home to General Douglas McArthur. McArthur also became the General Manager of this Hotel. The design has probably not changed to date. Its classic and dark wood appearance seem to take you back in time when this hotel housed only the elites and dignitaries visiting the country.
