Local restaurants & spots warmly recommended to everyone who’d live to experience best it regional cuisine and lifestyle
A typical fishermen trattoria much beloved by locals especially for its seafood . Do not expect a glamour haunty or excellent service, it is not that. But you find great sea food served on a terrace overlooking the sea. Unique and delicious dishes topped with the finest, yet simplest of Italian ingredients and sold at prices to keep their guests pleased! Laid back, tasty and cheap eat in a friendly, jam packed atmosphere. Highly recommended for those who would love to experience real Puglian “pulse” and lifestyle.

Amazing venue, you are dropped right in the port on a mini island. It's family owned for generations and absolutely worth a try. If you like raw seafood, try it here. Sea urchins (typical for Gallipoli). Also hard to find better on fresh fish, coming daily from the sea. Not cheap, although.

Parks & Nature

Places you wouldn’t have ever thought to visit (but really should): Porto Selvaggio Bay. Just some km north-western Gallipoli, right in the heart of a charmingly flat inland plain covered in ancient, gnarled olives, there is a secret bay & beach with the evocative name of Porto Selvaggio, or 'Wild Harbour'. A few miles north-east of Gallipoli, this pristine coastal enclave has enjoyed protected-area status since 1980. Awesome walking routes with amazing sea views. This place has been recently recommended by the Telegraph and in 2015 by National Geographic in 2015 amongst the World's Top 10 Value Destinations to visit. I recommend this entrance: Entrance "Villa Tafuri".

Lecce is praised locally as the Florence of the south. You will explore churches, shops, historic sights and fascinating secret corners of the downtown. Strolling down the amazing “Streets of Baroque & Renaissance” you will struck by the intensity of the warm pale yellow typical of this region and the arabesque embroidery of baroque art. In an extraordinary skillfull interplay of light and shade, you will be fascinated by the garlands on a well or the wings of a cherrub. Do not miss our Church of Santa Croce, the majestic Seminnary and Palazzo Marrese, the magnificent Piazza Duomo with its wonderful atmosphere, the Roman underground district, e.g. some ruins of the Appia way

The solemn Basilica of Santa Croce is a glimpse you don't expect, a sumptuous feast of stone that unfolds in front of the eyes of whoever strolls along Umberto I avenue, not far from Sant'Oronzo square, in Lecce, the very symbol of Lecce's Baroque. Built by the count of Lecce in 1353. The façade is punctuated by a series of columns, featuring a balcony with a balustrade, supported by figured corbels. The triumph of decorations is simply mind-blowing, while at the centre of this explosion of low reliefs and sculptures in Lecce stone stands out a magnificent large rose window fully decorated. The interior features a Latin-cross layout and a hemispherical dome. Definitely worth visiting.
