Our son worked there for many years. This is a long way out of town but magnificent location, pricey but definitely the place for a special occasion. They have a launch from the Brant Point Grille dock downtown to take you to Topper's for lunch or dinner (with a reservation) so that is basically a free boat road to/from downtown across the harbor that makes the price of the meal seem more reasonable!! Beyond this restaurant and inn is nothing but 8 miles of sand to Great Point and is accessible only by permit and a 4WD vehicle.

It is pricey but in a beautiful spot - outdoors on the beach for lunch or indoors in the evening with the piano for dinner and views across the Atlantic.

Historic venue with basement pub-like restaurant, or an outdoor deck when the weather is nice or upstairs in their newly renovated space - three completely different venues for food and/or nightlife with reasonable prices.

Drinks & Nightlife

There are excellent choices during the season, on the eastern end of the island where we are (in Sconset) as well as traditional downtown venues. Both are accessible via Uber, Taxis and the NRTA Wave Shuttle as well as via bicycle or Moped.
Expensive for dinner but small friendly piano bar with Grammy Award winning Jamie on the keys and lovely cabana pool and bar area during the day right on the beach

Arts & Culture

A must see. The island's history is truly fascinating with the founding families still very active on the island. The history of the whaling culture and how the island survived through the centuries is different than the history you might imagine. The whale skeleton that is on display in the museum is one we actually saw alive on our beach in the late 1990's. The islanders (many of whom were from whaling families) tried to save it but a simple infected tooth (which you can see) led to its final demise. I will never forget the eyes and eyelashes that looked around at all of us when the whale was beached. It was so very sad and also astounding to think someone would stab and slaughter these beautiful fellow mammals.

Parks & Nature

Not exactly a park but the highest point on the island (45 feet I think) and although accessible via 4WD vehicle, mountain bikes are the best on the sandy paths that take you there.

Getting Around

The NRTA/WAVE shuttle buses now run year round on the Sconset via Old South Road route which stops at the intersection of Tom Nevers and Milestone Roads (there is a shelter on the inbound (to town) route on the north side of Milestone Road. This is about a 1/2 mile walk from our house which is just off Tom Nevers Road. $3 each ride or you can get a pass for unlimited rides for a set number of days (see their website for more details (www.nrtawave.com). During the summer there is another route (Sconset via Milestone Road) that also stops there and then there are buses every 30 minutes instead of hourly. For up-to-date information see their website at www.nrtawave.com
