Can be a little noisy as it is popular with groups as well as couples. It does pay to book at least 2-3 days in advance as they get busy.

Popular wonderful rustic cafe with lots of charm out of the main city centre. They make their own bread which is very nice with eggs, creamy garlic mushrooms, soup etc. In the winter they have a cosy log burner and in summer you can sit outside under the grape vines.

Fabulous miniature railway for children- one of the best in the country through native bush and playground. Approx a 15 minute drive.

Te Manawa is a free small friendly museum with interesting displays. The kids play area suits ages baby to 12 and is fabulous for an explore especially on a rainy day. Very highly recommended.

The Lions Club run a mini golf near the Makino Swimming Pool which is $2 for kids and $5 for adults.
Kowhai Park is a nice spot for a picnic with the kids.
The Focal Point Cinema is a lovely litttle boutique style movie theatre and you can get a meal and movie deal for around $35 in the evenings.
