Paphos Archaeological Park covers most of the important ancient Greek and Roman City and is a UNESCO World Heritage site for its outstanding ancient remains. The most significant remains so far discovered are four large and elaborate Roman villas: the House of Dionysos, the House of Orpheus, the House of Aion and the House of Theseus, all with superb preserved mosaic floors. In addition, excavations have uncovered an Agora, Asklepion, Basilica, Odeon, Theatre and a necropolis known as the Tombs of the Kings.

Paphos Lighthouse is a well known lighthouse on the island of Cyprus, near to the town of Paphos. It is sited on a peninsula known as Paphos point which extends into the Mediterranean Sea, at the south western end of the island. Built in 1888, when Cyprus was under British administration, the island was a key military base protecting the route of ships travelling through the Suez Canal to the colonies. The light acted as a landfall marker for shipping destined for Paphos harbour from Britain. The 20m high whitewashed masonry tower has a single gallery and lantern. Enclosing the tower is a compound containing the keeper’s house and outbuildings.

The Agios Neophytos Monastery was founded by Neophytos. After being jailed for pursuing an ascetic life, he fled into the hills of Cyprus and found a small natural cave in 1159. Months passed while he made sure the area was deserted and quiet. He slowly excavated the opening further to encompass his hermitage cell, a small chapel, and his eventual tomb. While it began as a hermitage for Neophytos alone, he eventually gained a small following and the Engleistra, as it was also called, became a quiet monastic community in 1170 when the Bishop of Paphos convinced him to take a pupil. Neophytos was staunchly against materialism and being bothered, which kept the population of monks much smaller.

Saranta Kolones is a ruined medieval fortress inside the Paphos Archaeological Park and it is located just north of the harbour of Paphos, on the island of Cyprus. It takes its name from the large number of granite columns that were found on the site and probably once formed part of the ancient agora. The Byzantine castle is believed to have been built at the end of the 7th century AD to protect the port and the city of Nea Pafos from Arab raids and later remodeled by the Lusignans. The Fortress had a three-metre thick wall with four huge corner towers and another four intermediary towers along the joining walls and moat.

The Cypriots worshipped a goddess of fertility from as early as the Chalcolithic period (3900–2500 BC).[4] They depicted her as a woman with the obvious characteristics of maternity and modelled figurines of her in stone or clay, of which the larger ones became objects of adoration and their smaller counterparts were worn on the body. Others were placed in graves to protect the dead. The myth that Venus (known as Aphrodite in Greek) was born on the coast of Cyprus may be connected to the adoration of this fertility goddess.

Trooditissa Monastery, is situated on the southern slopes of the Troödos Mountains on the island of Cyprus. It is an orthodox monastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It was founded in 990, but the current building dates back to 1731. Unique and tranquil place, spending here a few nights during Easter is a memorable experience that will follow you through life. Be modest (in behaviour and dress code) in order to enter.

The Holy Monastery of the Virgin of Kykkos was founded around the end of the 11th century[1] by the Byzantine emperor Alexios I Komnenos (1081–1118). The monastery lies at an altitude of 1318 meters on the north west face of Troödos Mountains. There are no remains of the original monastery as it was burned down many times. The first President of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios III started his ecclesiastical career there as a monk in 1926.[2] He remained fond of the place and returned there many times. His request to be buried there materialised after his death in 1977. His tomb lies 3 km west of Kykkos monastery and remains a popular visitor destination.

First thing, it's a mission to get to! You go along an unfinished road for a good 20 minutes before you get to the car park, we did it in our old hire car we had with 5 people on board and had some pretty hefty rocks bouncing around underneath at points. I would say only bother going if you plan on climbing the tree and jumping in the (freezing!) water! OK way to waste half a day.

We visited Nicosia and decided to crossover into the north via Ledra Street crossing point which was very easy with no hassle you need passport to cross. Once over you're then in a shopping area packed with shops you can also visit a mosque if your properly dressed. Well worth a visit over there. We went for s walk around the area came to a street covered in bright umbrellas. We also went to Paphos Gate as it's all seemed to be less militarised now has different feel now.

Not a huge museum (which, frankly, is a good thing) but full of fascinating items - the terracotta figures are possibly the highlight however the carved lions, the gold jewellery and the busts are all amazing. Even if you do nothing else on the cultural front in this city then this is a must!

This is a beautifully arranged art gallery in architecturally nicely designed modern building, hosting the rich collection of A.G. Leventis. It is divided into Cypriot, Greek and European art galleries with paintings and other decorative art pieces. It provides a very representative view especially of Cypriot and Greek painting in the last 2 centuries, and you can walk through the exhibits in a couple of hours. Very educational also for children. Ask for their workshops for children.
