Food Scene

Lab Espresso may have the best coffee in town and is also such a unique business idea for the city centre as they stand apart from the mainstream coffee chains! And now for a little bit of harmless nepatism, our office designed the space but our client, now friends, are fantastic people and very very devoted to what they do so please do visit if you can...and the food and cake, delightful!

Simply the best Pizza in town! The menu is small, but there is always a meat and vegetarian daily special - the chilli oil is AMAZING, we highly recommend it, fabulous and great value for money! They don't take bookings so just arrive and hopefully you won't have too long to wait!

This may be one of our favourite places to eat, it was certainly one of the meals we spoke about for a few weeks after! It is 10 minute walk from the apartment along Sauchiehall Street and also takes you into the Finnieston neighbourhood which has many lovely, independant restaurants and bars now. They have a great kids menu and friendly staff, our little boy loved it too!

Drinks & Nightlife

Sleazy's as it's affectionately known is a bit of an iconic bar within the music / art school scene, but they still don't mind some of the, ahem, older folks coming back from time to time! This may not suit everyone who stays with us but it is still our go to place if we ever get a night out as parents of a little toddler! They have a good DJ rotation and live music in the basement and free entry before midnight, though you may want to check that is still the case, it has been a little while ;)

If you fancy a little luxury we would recommend having afternoon tea or an evening in the cocktail bar of the Blythswood Hotel, it is just perfect! The building was empty for many years but has been restored with such care and delicacy! The cocktail list is very extensive, we always order an Old Fashioned and a Bloody Mary extra spicy, enjoy!

SWG3 is Glasgow's latest venue (I think, we are slightly out the loop), however it was designed by our office so we are slightly biased about how great it is! Its an arts venue, houses artist studios, music venue, nightclub and the weekend Hypermarket for local makers and street food!

Parks & Nature

Pollok Park is simply stunning, you can completely lose yourself and have absolutely no idea that you are still in the city. There are many walks you can choose and also visit Pollok House, free entry with National Trust for Scotland membership and also the Burrell Collection, a diverse collection of arts, crafts and furniture gifted to the city by William Burrell. The best way to get to the park is by train to Pollokshaws West from Central Station, a 10 minute train ride at most. The park has become a place of great affection for us as our little boy Rudy attends an outdoor nursery there, a first of its kind in Scotland.

Kelvingrove Park is certainly worth seeing. It's beautiful and some say Central Park was modelled on it...maybe it is true :) It is just a 10 minute walk from the apartment through Park Circus which is a lovely area to wander and Kelvingrove Museum lies at the other side - it is also a nice route towards the west end of the city. For families there are two playparks, one with a cafe beside it - a must, and for older, more daredevils there is a pretty good skate park too! The Kelvingrove Bandstand has recently been reopened for the Commonwealth Games and now hosts and interesting rosta of live bands and children's entertainment so worth checking out.

Sightseeing

Possibly Glasgow's most loved building! It's just beautiful and magical, the atmosphere is hard to put into words! Sadly it is still closed after the fire that devastated half of the building but you can still get a sense of the place from the outside and the Reid building opposite is also worth seeing, tours can be taken in there too.

Glasgow City Chambers are located at George Square and really is a marvellous building, tours can be booked to see inside. But please use George square as a starting place to just explore Glasgow on foot, the Victorian heritage is something we are all very proud of and remember to always look up at the buildings for the detail and decoration shouldn't be missed!
