HIKING/TRAIL RUNNING The Ascutney Outdoors Center is the gateway to some of the best hiking trails in Vermont. The trail network right around the AOC is a great option for shorter trips, whether a fun family adventure, a stroll in the woods, or a scenic trail run. The trails are shared with mountain bikers and are clearly marked. Biking trail Maps are posted at the AOC and other major trail heads. ASCUTNEY OUTDOORS TRAIL The Ascutney Outdoors Center is also the starting point for the aptly named the Ascutney Outdoors Trail – click the adjacent map for a larger view. The trail goes to the top of the old triple chair lift and offers open vistas and spectacular views all along the way – just follow the yellow markers. If you are looking for a shorter hike, we recommend going to the ‘picnic table’, about a half mile up from the AOC. This stopping point offers panoramic views of Brownsville and the surrounding countryside. If you want a longer hike, go all the way up to the top of the trail (some steeps) and take in the views all the way to the White Mountains. This hike is about 1.5 miles long and has an elevation gain of nearly 1,500 feet. The Ascutney Outdoors Trail will soon connect to the Town’s Bicentennial Trail and State Park trails. The mountain features five principal, summit-bound hiking trails, three of which are named for the town from which that trail originates. The State Park publishes this map showing the Summit Trails on Mt Ascutney and other useful information. DISCOVERY TRAIL Ascutney Outdoors newest offering is the ‘Discovery Trail’, an interpretive walking trail starting and ending at the Ascutney Outdoors Center. The roughly one-mile loop includes stops with panels that engage visitors to understand and explore the natural and human history of the area. The trail is an extension of our programs and will attract many families, school children, and visitors to the mountain. The plan’s interactive features and panels were professionally designed and paid for through a grant from the National Park Service’ Rivers & Trails Program. The funding was provided by a grant from the State of Vermont’s Recreational Facilities Grant and a number of foundations who are long-time supporters of Ascutney Outdoors’ community programs. MOUNTAINSIDE DRIVE TRAILHEAD Another existing hiking option includes departing from the Mountainside Drive trailhead for a stroll up the expansive Mile Long Field and easy access to the central section of the trails network. The Town Forest trail head provides an extensive trail network wandering up, around, and through a variety of different environments highlighting the natural beauty of Vermont. Visit our Locations page for more information and directions to each trail-head. MOUNTAIN BIKING In the land around the Ascutney Outdoors Center, you’ll find about 35 miles of mapped and marked mountain bike trails located within the former ski area and the adjacent West Windsor Town Forest, as well as private lands. Most of these trails were carefully planned and built by the mountain bike enthusiasts at our sister organization, the Ascutney Trails Association. The trails are routed to guide you through some of the most beautiful and diverse terrain in New England, the hand-built trails stand as a premier destination for mountain-bikers from all over the Northeast. The trails offer an enjoyable riding experience for mountain-bikers of all skill levels, including challenging trails for advanced riders. EQUESTRIAN Equestrians are invited to share a multi-use trail that extends approximately 3 miles from the Ascutney Outdoors Center (AOC) – starting on Ski Tow Road to Kimball Farm Road. Please see map below. At Kimball Farm Road, you can connect via dirt roads in West Windsor, where additional riding terrain on trails and dirt roads is abundant. The multi-use trail is dirt road and double-track with gravel and natural surfaces, and is shared with mountain bikers, runners and hikers. You may park in the large lot directly across from the AOC where there is plenty of room for a horse trailer. Ascutney Outdoors welcomes suggestions from organizations for trail riding events. With its large parking lot and nearby availability of lodging and food, the AOC is an ideal event site.

What’s better than taking in the spectacular Lake Champlain sunsets, gliding past lush and colorful shoreline, enjoying Green Mountain and Adirondack vistas with a Kayak or Paddleboard rental. PaddleSurf Champlain is Vermont's original Stand Up Paddleboarding outfitter, offering lessons and guided tours, short- and long-term rentals, and affordable boards and paddles from two beachfront locations in Burlington, right on the Burlington Bike Path! WINGSURF OR WINGSUP! WingSurf — or WingSUP — is a way to power a paddleboard with the wind. A handheld sail (the wing) lets your board glide across the water. It's the simplest form of sailing, no paddle and no strings attached. PaddleSurf Champlain instructors will teach you everything you need to know to get started in this emerging paddleboard variation. We teach the points of sail, how to handle the wing on land, how to launch off the beach, and how to stay on track to head out and back to the same location. WINGSURF LESSON: $60 per person SURF SKIING! A stand up paddling experience like no other! PaddleSurf Champlain is the home of Surf Skiing. PSC owner Jason Starr invented these skis as a way to combine the best aspects of surfing and skiing into one killer sport. On the waves, it's like skiing the steeps. On the lake, it's like cross country skiing. Our surf skiing clinic covers the features of the skis and paddle and how to integrate a cross-country style leg kick and paddle stroke into a single, smooth motion over water. This clinic is for students interested in combining strength, balance and coordination in a fast-moving and fun water sport that builds full-body strength and stamina. Local Motion was founded in 1999 with a singular (and improbable) goal: to get people on bikes across the mouth of the Winooski River, where the Burlington Bike Path then came to an end. Since then, we have grown to become Vermont's statewide advocate for active transportation, vibrant communities, and safe streets. Our mission is simple: to bring walking and biking within reach for all! Rent regular or e-bikes by the hour or day and ride on the Burlington Bike Path and take the ferry across to South Hero Island! 1 Steele Street #103 Burlington, VT 05401 (802) 861-2700 info@localmotion.org

Stowe Recreation Path is a 10.5 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Stowe, Vermont that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. The Stowe Recreation Path is an internationally recognized greenway stretching from Stowe Village to Top Notch Resort on the Mountain Road. Residents and guests alike enjoy the 5.3 mile paved trail as it criss-crosses the West Branch of Little River. Breath-taking mountain views and access to restaurants, lodges and local businesses make the bike path one of the most popular recreation assets in Stowe. stowe_rec_path_mapIn 2010, Friends of Rec Path Grooming and several community members presented a proposal to the Select-board asking to have the path groomed during the winter. In 2011, following the efforts of the community, Stowe Town purchased the equipment needed to maintain the path during the cold months and opened it up for all-season use. Now, the path is open to walkers, runners, bikers, snowshoers, cross country skiers and roller bladers. During the winter, GMTA’s free winter shuttle provides transportation along the mountain road if you’re looking for a one-way trip! In the spring of 2017, Bike maintenance stations at the Lintilhac Park and Chase Park were installed. Bike maintenance stations include all the tools necessary to perform basic bike repairs and maintenance, from changing a flat to adjusting brakes and derailleurs. Hanging the bike from the hanger arms allows the pedals and wheels to spin freely while making adjustments. Visit gostowe.com for bike rental information.
