In my opinion the best steak restaurant in Hamburg! Located in the SIDE Hotel in the heart of the city. Not cheap but the meat is really good. Better reserve a table on weekends. It's very popular with weekend tourists from Scandinavia

This is a short walk away and a great place to sample craft beer. In summer you can sit outside in the courtyard. They also have a small menue with nice little dishes. This is a super start before walking across into the busy Schanzenviertel.

The Reeperbahn started life as a red light district and still works that way today. But it also hosts a million bars and night clubs and fortunatly the seedier sides of the red light district are tucked away. There are a couple of Irish Pubs along the Reeperbahn which are always busy and fun. Go and have a look for yourself. It's like Las Vegas or Marmite: You either love it or hate it.

Try to beat the queues and go there early or book an advance ticket. You should set at least 2 hours aside for this but you can easily spend hours and hours.

Sightseeing
The new landmark along the harbour is a must. You can go up to the public viewing gallery which wraps around the building and is free. Especially worth it on a sunny day. You have a great view over Hamburg and the harbour.

One of the famous landmarks of Hamburg, lovingly called The Michel. You can walk up to the top of the tower and will be rewarded with an awesome view. In the runup to Christmas they host special musical sessions, worth while going there.

There are entrances all along the park and you won't notice that you are in the middle of a large city once you are a few steps in. There's a light show with fountains in the summer. Check out the timetable on their website. Kind of old fashioned but sweet nonetheless. In winter you can go to the open air ice rink and swish around to the sound of the DJ or watch the local kids show off while drinking a hot Glühwein/mulled wine or hot chocolate.
