The Botanical Garden is a green oasis in the city - a place to relax and to enjoy the botanical variety and diversity. Most of the area is designed as an Arboretum, with approximately 1800 different plants. The garden holds a large and varied collection of trees and shrubs planted in a systematic fashion after plant family. The Scent Garden is arranged as an experience for all, but especially the blind, mentally handicapped and wheelchair-bound. The Palm House from 1868 and The Victoria House from 1876 present exotic plants from other parts of the world. In addition, you will also find large, woven sculptures around the park, made by the British artist Tom Hare. The greenhouses are open Tuesday-Sunday 11 am-4 pm.

St. Hanshaugen is one of Oslo's largest parks, located just north of the city centre. This popular recreational area is great for walks, and from the top of the hill you have a nice view of Oslo. St. Hanshaugen was originally a bare rock hill. In the 1840s the name St. Hanshaugen ("midsummer hill") came into use, as the hill was a popular place for midsummer celebrations. In 1936, an open-air café was built at Festplassen - the square on top of the hill - which is still a popular summer café today.

Church ruins in Maridalen The church ruins in Maridalen valley are one of few memories in Oslo from the Middle Ages. The Church of Margareta was built around the year 1250 AD. It was a small, single-nave church with choir, dedicated to St. Margareta. The medieval church was partly excavated and restored in 1934, and is beautifully situated at Kirkeby in the north end of the lake Maridalsvannet. The historical play "Maridalsspillet" is performed in the ruins every year (late summer).

Bjørvika Barcode is a masterplan designed by MVRDV of Rotterdam and the Norwegian firms DARK Architects and A-lab. It is realized as a row of multi-purpose high rises designed by different architect firms. The buildings are all long and narrow with some space in between them, thus jointly resembling a barcode. Besides the overall shape the buildings are very different, with many enjoyable architectonic details and quirks. The construction of Barcode is part of the larger development of the Bjørvika area. The tall buildings are situated close to the Oslo fjord, and have radically redefined the skyline of a city that was distinctively low-rise. The project has caused an unprecedented stir among both architects and the citizens of Oslo, and the designs and heights of the Barcode buildings remain hot topics of discussion.
