Food Scene

I've only mentioned a few of my favorite local places here. However, you can get onto Route 610 1.7 miles from my home and head East. Almost every chain restaurant you can think of can be found on 610 as you drive towards the freeway. You'll find Papa John's, McDonalds, Domino's, Chick-Fil-A, Panda Express, Outback Steakhouse, Burger King, Taco Bell, Mission BBQ, IHOP, Wendy's, Jersey Mike's, Chipotle, Chili's, and Buffalo Wild Wings. Go another mile or two to cross over I-95 and turn right onto Route 1 to get to Pizza Hut and KFC.

If you're looking for an Irish pub with lots of flavor in both food and atmosphere, I recommend Paddy's. They have karaoke nights, live music nights, and DJs with a pub atmosphere.

Historical sites

We live in the heart of United States history. Historic Jamestown and Williamsburg are both just a couple of hours south of here. Closer to home, revolutionary and civil war battles were fought here, and there are many battlefields to see. You might find a church that was built in the e1600s and still stands or cobbled streets. Please search the internet for more things to see in historic Virginia!
Twenty minutes away, the Rising Sun Tavern Museum provides a lively interpretation of late 18th-century Tavern life. Charles Washington, George Washington's youngest brother, built this landmark in the 1760's as his private residence. After being sold outside the Washington family, the building was leased as a tavern in 1792. Operating as a stopover for travelers for 35 years in the bustling town of Fredericksburg, it was a popular diversion for travelers and locals alike. Today, costumed guides entertain visitors as though they have just stepped off their coaches into the late 18th-century life. See how bygone visitors slept, ate, drank and lived. No alcohol is served here.

Just over 20 minutes from our home, this free museum is divided into 3 sections, before, during and after the war. They are not huge exhibits but a very interesting. They also have a movie that nicely shows a lot of the history of the battle.

About an hour and a half away from us, Monticello was Thomas Jefferson's home. Thomas Jefferson was not one of the most important statesmen in our history, he was also a great innovator. His personality is reflected in his home.

The story of the past, present & future of the Marine Corp is told in this state-of-the-art museum. Located about 22 minutes from here, this is a must-see -- especially if you're coming to celebrate a marine's graduation! Be sure to note the Iwo Jima-inspired shape of the building.

These caverns are full of nature's artwork. They're truly awe-inspiring! They're about an hour and half away, but well worth the drive.

What's better than visiting a well-interpreted major Civil War battlefield? Visiting four of them! (Though not in the name, Chancellorsville National Battlefield and Wilderness National Battlefield are also part of the same park.) There is plenty here to hold the interest of the casual observer. One driving map shows easy-to-follow color-coded driving tours for each of the four sites. You can get out and walk the fields and trails firsthand, or simply read signs in each small parking area. Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville also both have excellent visitor centers. This is approximately 25 minutes away.
