The south entrance is a north turn off of Hwy 24 onto a gravel road where acceptors hunt the open short grass prairie and ground feeding birds fly from spot to spot. There are hills on the left and right which may have perching birds gazing at you as you drive.
At the reservoir there is plenty of shoreline to wander along where killdeer cry at you and White pelicans may be floating offshore. With shoreline, open water, and short grass prairie all in view you will be engulfed in multiple birding habitats.
