A perfect brunch or afternoon snack, this better-than you'd expect cafe/bar sits at the Yacht Club on the waterfront on our favourite city swimming beach Oriental Bay. Amazing cocktails, great views and fresh, modern food. It's a brunch star so might pay to book on weekends.

The famous food hub of Wellington that makes the rest of New Zealand jealous. Fresh food, a bulk goods/variety store, booze .. you name it they have it. Plus there is a french rotisserie chicken truck on the roof and a number of excellent cafes next door. It's pretty busy on weekends but well worth a visit.

The grounds are open to the public and make a great shortcut from the apartment to the city and waterfront. Also they have free tours which are well worth doing if you have time.

Huge market on Sundays at Chauffers Marina

Food carts, bread, vegetables, organic meat and even buy seafood off the fishing boats moored alongside. Make sure to take a big bag as the veges are straight from the market gardens and the locals buy all their vegetables for the week here.

Jump on a train to the Wine region

The Masterton train from Wellington Station takes a scenic 90 minute trip through the hills to the Wairarapa wine region.
