This friendly and authentic osteria is a great place to rub shoulders with locals. Everyone crams in to enjoy the legendary “mozzarella in carrozza”, a tiny deep-fried sandwich filled with molten mozzarella and either prosciutto or sardines, washed down with an equally tiny sparking cider, beer o spritz. Made with the freshest locally sourced ingredients, it's dangerously moreish. Via Barberia 20 9.30am-2pm & 4-8.30pm Mon-Sat Snacks €1.30-3

This great little wine bar serves up thick slices of mortadella (pork cold cut), prosciutto and a wide range of cheese generously piled on crusty bread, and washed down with delicious and very reasonably priced local wines. It has a lively atmosphere and plenty to look at, as the walls are plastered with old rugby shirts and assorted knickknackery. Vicolo Broli 2 9am-2.30pm & 5.30-9pm Mon-Fri, 9.30am-2pm & 5.30-9pm Sat Sandwiches €3-5

For a special dinner. Named after an old mulberry tree, this classy restaurant serves some of Treviso's finest seafood. Chef Gaetano selects the finest ingredients from the fish market each day for his grand platters, including crab ravioli and tuna in pistachio crust. Via Riccati 28

This trattoria has been a reference point since 1880, and the original wood-panelled dining room is reassuringly full of diners hunched over silky plates of risotto full of white asparagus and bowls of tagliatelle with duck ragù. In the evening, turn the corner into a second contemporary dining room where you'll find a slick bar serving the best of the region’s labels from its 3000-bottle cellar. Via Inferiore 7

Best pizza in town! Wood fired ovens crisp up a variety of pizza specialties. Despite indoor and outdoor seating for hundreds, the service is remarkably fast. If you’re looking for pizza, this is the obvious choice.

The best places in Treviso for vegetarians/vegans if you don't want to eat pasta or pizza. Not only a bistrot serving vegan and biological food but also a mini market.

‪Rabbit stuffed with asparagus is just an example of Cae de Oro authentic traditional cuisine. Locals love it and the seating capacity is limited so you must book. Food is sensational, all served beautifully in a rustic setting, great atmospherebut also chatter and laughter because the service is very professional but the staff is friendly with help on hand when translating the menu. After all that prices are always reasonable and the choice of wine excellent!‬

The 150-year-old Osteria Arman, a noisy bar with locals playing cards at rough wooden tables while talking politics and sport, gets packed out for lunch and dinner. There is no service charge, no tourist menu, just a tempting daily list of ever-changing seasonal dishes: ravioli stuffed with locally grown radicchio and smoked ricotta (€9), plump gnocchi with rich duck ragù (€9), porcini risotto (€10) or sopa coada (pigeon soup with bread, €10), followed by our famous Tiramisu, dessert created 50 years ago by a chef right here in Treviso. If you’re looking for a treat without breaking the bank, that’s the place. Centrally located, just two blocks behind Piazza dei Signori and before you reach the river, this restaurant is well-decorated, retaining ancient features and it is spacious. The prices are reasonable even if it is in the Michelin Guide. For a romantic dinner check out the back room right on the canal.
