Winter play

Brundage has the best snow in Idaho; not too heavy and most consistent from top to bottom. The terrain has a good variety for a small hill, and there's a free bunny hill for those just learning. Lift tickets pretty inexpensive. Varied dining options, and its only a 20 minute drive from Nestle Creek Cabin.

The Activity Barn is an easy way to go sledding or tubing, especially if you don't have either with you! For a price they will supply you with a tube, and even a magic carpet to get you to the top of the hill. Pretty setting.

Mountain biking/snow shoeing

Bear Basin is a really pretty spot; great place to mountain bike (there's also a terrain park), and also to snowshoe in the winter. You can stay down at the base for a low key trek through the snow, or head up the hill for a climb and some pretty views!

Food scene

We love Growler's; the pizza is delicious, and its got a fun modern but casual vibe. We've got three kids, and this place it great for families with it's casual atmosphere. They've even got a gluten free pizza option!

Hot Springs

Burgdorf is a unique place; secluded and in a rural, rustic setting. It's history goes back to the 19th century, with the original pool in use. The water is so clear and clean, and it's not as busy as the other hot springs around. It's open all year but difficult to access in Winter.

Gold Fork is in a beautiful setting, with several pools cascading from hottest to coolest. One of the pools is lined with sand, which is fun for kids. It can get busy! Be sure to have cash or check with you when you arrive.

We love going to Zim's. It's a bit rustic, but is more quiet than Gold Fork, and instead of several pools there are two; a shallow hotter one and a larger, cooler, deeper one. There is also a basketball hoop for those that want to play water ball.

Cross Country Skiing

Locations and Maps
Ponderosa State Park has hosted the Senior National Championships in cross country skiing, and also has some fun snowshoe trails. It is about a 15 minute drive from the cabin, and if you can make it to the top of the Narrows Lookout, you'll have great views of the lake. Bear Basin is 5 miles from the cabin, less than a ten minute drive. It has a number of cross country ski trails, that mostly thread through the woods. It also has some fun snowshoe trails, and "rendezvous" puts you on top of a ridge, that on a clear day, has a great view of the lake and the Salmon River Mountains behind them. Jughandle Moutain also has several ski and snowshoe trail options. It is located about 20 minutes southeast of McCall, just outside of Lake Fork. The trails skirt a golf course/mountain bike park. Map: https://jugmountainranch.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Trail-Map_Winter-2018.pdf

15 miles of groomed trails that skirt the golf course and downhill ski resort. The trails mostly wind trough wooded terrain, with occasional views of the lake. One of our favorite things to do is hop across West Mountain Road and ski on the frozen lake. Map: http://tamarackidaho.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Nordic-Map_11x17_proofC_sm.pdf

Brown Park is a must see with kids

Just past Mile High Marina Grill on Lake Street, this park is tucked away and has a beautiful view of Payette Lake, a large playground, and vast green space with picnic tables.
