Located in nearby Llandaff village, (2 miles down the road towards Cardiff), the Black Lion is a proper Welsh pub. If you appreciate fine cask ales, then you have found one of the best pubs in the Cardiff area. Brains beer is the best in Wales! Not really recommended for food. Sightseeing

The lock system which links the Cardiff Bay to the tidal Bristol Channel was one of Europe's largest civil engineering projects when it was completed in 1999. It is a "must see" if you are technically minded, but it is great to simply while away some time watching the boats move in and out of the Bay.

The wonderful "Gavin and Stacey" television series was largely filmed here, close to the Pleasure Park. Why not sit on the esplanade sea wall overlooking the beach where the closing scene of the whole series was shot!

Caerphilly Castle is a medieval fortification located in nearby Caerphilly. The castle was constructed by Gilbert de Clare in the 13th century as part of his campaign to conquer Glamorgan, and saw extensive fighting between Gilbert, his descendants, and the native Welsh rule. It is one of the great medieval castles of western Europe. Several factors give it this pre-eminence - its immense size (1.2h), making it the largest in Britain after Windsor, its large-scale use of water for defence and the fact that it is the first truly concentric castle in Britain. Of the time of its building in the late 13th century, it was a revolutionary masterpiece of military planning. This really is a "must visit" for any castle enthusiast The attached photo does not even begin to do this site justice!

Arts & Culture

This is not a "standard" museum which is housed in a large grey stone building, full of grey artefacts in grey glass cases. No, --It is completely different. Various buildings of historic interest from all over Wales have been dismantled and rebuilt in the museum's parkland. Visitors can see a range of architectural styles from many centuries of Welsh life and all in one setting. On a sunny day, take a picnic and walk through the history of Welsh life.

Hikes and Walks

Pen-y fan is the highest mountain in South Wales and is situated in the Brecon Nationl Park, north of Cardiff on the A470. The hike to the top is hard work but spectacularly rewarding views await you.( assuming the weather is fine, which it usually isn't!! There are some excellent traditional pubs in nearby Brecon, where the beers are spectacularly rewarding irrespective of the weather and they require very little effort to get into them.

If you really have to "go shopping" then I guess this is where you can indulge yourself. There are some good pubs in the area if you get fed up. The best one is The Old Arcade" which is world famous amongst the international rugby fraternity.
