Henry and Georgiana Pittock were central figures in making Portland the city it is today. This home and the story behind it's construction and the Pittock's who built it are fascinating and truly stunning. The gardens and grounds are also beautiful and you can see then entire city of Portland laid out before you with Mount Hood in the backdrop from their gardens. Inexpensive and with volunteers to tell you all about it, it's something you'll truly enjoy!

Powell's Books is AMAZING! With all the online shopping that's been putting brick and mortar bookstores out of business, it's hard to find one where you can actually sit down and look through a book to see whether you'd like to buy it. Powell's is a Portland institution and takes up and entire city block with several floors! You can find an astounding variety of new and used books in every category you can imagine, in addition to maps, cards, journals, and even extremely rare books there. With a lovely coffee shop that serves a variety of beverages, baked goods and sandwiches, you can bring an armload of books in with you to peruse while sipping your tea or having lunch. Absolutely love this place!

New rose cultivars are continually sent to the garden from many parts of the world and are evaluated on several characteristics, including disease resistance, bloom formation, color, and fragrance. It is the oldest continuously operating public rose test garden in the United States and exemplifies Portland's nickname, "City of Roses".

You've never experienced anything like it; it's an absolute blast! It's actually down by Eugene, but it's totally worth getting yourself down there if you come to this area when it's happening. If you're interested in finding out more, check out the link: www.oregoncountryfair.org
