The restaurant "La Ciurucuri" is placed in the central area of Bucharest close to the Palace Square and the Cișmigiu Park. It is a medium-sized restaurant; in good weather tables are available also on the sidewalk. Sometimes it features live music. The decor is original, the interior is even pleasant. It is a quiet place frequented by decent clients. The menu without being vast is enough and contains very varied meals. The staff is nice and prices are acceptable for this area of the city. In Romanian the meaning of " ciurucuri" is rubbish, but do not be amazed, it's just a joke. 5 min away from my house, through the park.

This tastefully decorated café located in the old town attracts with its unique Neo-Romanian interior, surprisingly complemented by the addition of postmodern colorful paintings. Its no-reservations policy is something quite unusual for Bucharest’s fashionable cafés, but it certainly catches on very well, particularly with foreign visitors. The café terrace hosts artistic performances and unconventional shows, such as street pantomime on summer weekend evenings. While most central cafés open late in the afternoon, Van Gogh is a great place for breakfast and brunch, with tasty assorted choices. A 10 min walk away from my house.

A super organic food bar. Try a cooked “Pukka Tukka” breakfast, or a lunch of salmon with baby spinach. All the drinks, including coffee, fresh apple juice and a selection of local wines, are 100% organic, too. Literally “beer cart”, is the first restaurant many tourists make a beeline for but it’s also where the locals go, which says much about its authenticity. Chic waiting staff scuttle around the ornate restaurant, doling out Romanian standards such as mititei (grilled meat rolls) and tochitură (pork stew), while the house musicians belt out Romanian folk tunes. You should visit Vatra if you want to try some really delicious authentic Romanian food in a comfortable environment. The restaurant has all sorts of traditional Romanian decorations and a lovely terrace open in the summer, with traditional folk music and dance. It's a whole Romanian experience with traditional recipes, so the food here is well cooked and very tasty. Also, it's a quiet place, nicely decorated, away from the city noise. Vatra has the best ciorba in town. There's also mamaliga, that goes really well with sarmale, Romania's traditional dish, or mici (meat rolls). Vatra is at a 3 min walk away from my house.

As soon as the temperature reaches around 20 degrees, J’ai Bistrot the garden takes out its wooden benches and tables, umbrellas, hammocks, chill vibes and folding beach chairs to inaugurate the urban warm season. The crowd is a good mix of young professionals, freelancers, families, dogs, hipsters and old hippies. A good place to have a chat and a drink in a very relaxed atmosphere. Possibly the most child-friendly environment in the city, also great for dog-owners. The prices are reasonable and the staff is very friendly. They serve plat du jour, also soup of the day and vegetarian dishes. They often host concerts and events at the weekends. 20 min walk from my house.

Many consider Acuarela to be an alternative place. It offers a good selection of teas, beers and wines in atmospheric surroundings. The building’s attic is decorated like a cosy home with familiar objects, while the open terrace has umbrellas as its roof, and doors as its tables. The best part is that it’s set in a green, leafy garden. Acuarela is also home to the Imbold Gallery – exhibition space dedicated to young Romanian artists. The graphic works on display are frequently changing, and according to the curator, it’s the perfect place to experience contemporary art. Concerts and theatre performances take place on the terrace almost every weekend. This bar's toilet is the coolest in town.

One would never guess while walking down the hectic Calea Victoriei, the little secret that lies behind Știrbei Palace – a local beach bar with trees of heaven and grey gravel sprawling across 2,000 square meters, unbeatable for late after-work chats over drinks, lazy summer gatherings and child-friendly environment. This place quickly became a favourite amongst locals looking for for cool places with cool people. There’s a wonderful open-air terrace full of flowers and ivy, as well as a mysterious old house. T he style of this place is reminiscent of Budapest’s ‘ruin bars’ – it feels a bit like a squat, a bit like a haunted house. The decrepit walls, old furniture and low lighting contribute to its scary but warm atmosphere. Many events take place here including concerts, theatre performances, parties and more. A major architectural landmark of the city and an example of the historic times Bucharest. The eclectic architecture combining a luxuriant ornamental repertoire harmonically used for the facade as well as for the interiors, fully reflects the atmosphere of the 1900’s. Comprised of a spectacular ballroom, serving also as a theater and a concert hall, with a library, a bowling alley and many rooms and shops on the ground level, it was an impressive structure interfusing architectural styles of the most renowned buildings of that time: the Chamber of Commerce, the Romanian Post Office, the CEC Savings House and the Supreme Court of Justice, all built during the same period.

The Union of Architects - one of Bucharest’s top tourist attractions because of its architectural value, 7 min from our house. If the bottom floors look like a historic building, towards the top, it turns into a modern style skyscraper. Built at the end of the 19th century, in December 1989, the building was almost entirely burned down and destroyed as it was suspected to shelter terrorists. After December 1989, the house was split into two: half of it became the headquarters for the Romanian Academy, while the second half belonged to the Union of Romanian Architects. Built in the French Renaissance architectural style, the landmark retains from the former imposing building two facades.
