Traveling Hanoi and not eating bun cha (barbecued pork with rice vermicelli) with a side of nem cua be (sea-crab spring rolls) should be classed as a capital offence. That is an excellent spot to try this street-food classic.

The royal enclosure was first built during the Lý Dynasty (1010) and subsequently expanded by the Trần, Lê and finally the Nguyễn Dynasty. It remained the seat of the Vietnamese court until 1810, when the Nguyen Dynasty chose to move the capital to Huế. The ruins roughly coincide with the Hanoi Citadel today. The royal palaces and most of the structures in Thang Long were in varying states of disrepair by the late 19th century with the upheaval of the French conquest of Hanoi. By the 20th century many of the remaining structures were torn down. Only in the 21st century are the ruin foundations of Thang Long.

Ngoc Son Temple may be Hanoi’s most visited temple, but its prettiest is definitely the Temple of Literature. A quiet, green oasis, the Temple of Literature blooms in stark contrast with the concrete city surrounding it. With many landscaped courtyards, gardens, and pavilions, this place is definitely one for the photography-inclined! Built as a temple to Confucius in 1070, the Temple of Literature was centered more on academia than religion. A place of study for the wealthy, The Temple of Literature was Vietnam’s first national university, and many monuments still remain on the grounds dedicated to the scholars who graduated here.I recommend arriving as early as you can.

Ham Long Church is a Roman Catholic church in the center district Hoan Kiem of Hanoi, Vietnam. The church was built at the end of the 19th century near an old street named Hàm Long from which Ham Long Church was called. At the end of the 19th century, a Roman Catholic church was erected near the Doudart de Lagrée Street of Hanoi. This was an historic street of the Old Quarter of Hanoi with the former name Hàm Long, so the church was more commonly known as the Ham Long Church. The actual church was built in 1934 after the design of a Vietnamese architect, at the time of the French administration.

Infamously known as the Hanoi Hilton, Hoa Lo Prison is one of those tourist attractions I often debate back and forth whether I really want to visit before finally deciding that I’d be more disappointed if I didn’t go than if I did. And it was exactly what I thought it would be – blatantly obvious Vietnamese propaganda. That being said, if you take everything written inside what is now a museum with a grain of salt, it can be a pretty interesting experience to see where the French held Vietnamese political prisoners from the late 1800’s until 1954 and where American POWs were kept during the Vietnam War

We often visit this place for some shopping and a movie. It is not so big but really nice, very clean with great air conditioner. The movie theater looks gorgeous with really good services but quite cheaper. Sometimes we also have a good meal in one of many restaurants there.

A must-visit place when you are in Hanoi! Trang Tien Plaza is the only shopping center which is right at the heart of Hanoi (opposite the Hoan Kiem Lake). The interior of this building is awesome, I was impressed with the atrium in here. This place is also the only address for luxury shopping in Hanoi. The shopping center has many international prestige brands like: Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Cartier, Dior, Dior Homme, Burberry, Bvlgari, Rolex, Zegna, Salvatore Ferragamo, Versace, Bally,..It will also offer a wide choices of restaurants and a CGV cinema in 2018. Trang Tien Plaza is not the largest shopping center in Hanoi, but the best!
